Everyone knows how to make Rice Krispie Treats right? You just follow the directions on the back of the marshmallow package or the cereal box. You can do that and you will get an average Rice Krispie Treat. Today I want to share with you a few secrets on how to get the Perfect Rice Krispie Treats. Who wants to be average when it is so easy to be perfect!
I love a good Rice Krispie Treats and they are popular at our house because they are easy to make with gluten free rice krispies. Just make sure the marshmallows you are using are gluten free. I prefer Kraft Marshmallows because they are gluten free. I also use the mini marshmallows but the large will work just fine too.
How to Make Rice Krispie Treats
So what is the secret? Two things. More butter and more marshmallows! I like to use an entire bag of marshmallows and an entire cube or stick of butter (1/2 C) I also make mine in the microwave but you can do it on the stove top if you prefer. I just microwave the marshmallows and butter for a couple of minutes and then stir until the everything is melted and smooth.
Then add in the Rice Krispies. I used an entire 12 oz. box of cereal which is about 10 cups.
Next you want to stir it well, until ever last piece of cereal has a nice coating of melted marshmallow and butter surrounding it. Work those arm muscles. Then pop it into your 9 x 13 pan and flatten. I don’t like to flatten mine too much. I like to leave them a bit airy, but if you prefer compact Rice Krispie Treats go for it and really push those babies down into the pan.
Now here is the question. Do you like to eat your Rice Krispie Treats while they are still warm and gooey or do you let them set up and cool? I am a fan of both!
Rice Krispie Treats Recipe
Make the best, most perfect rice krispie treats every time with this recipe!
- 16 oz. bag of marshmallows
- 12 oz. box of crispy rice cereal
- 1/2 C butter cut into pieces
- Place marshmallows and butter into a microwave safe bowl.
- Melt in microwave on high for 1 1/2 - 2 minutes.
- Stir until marshmallows and butter are melted and smooth. If butter is not totally melted, microwave for an additional 15 seconds.
- Pour in cereal.
- Stir until cereal is totally coated with marshmallow mixture.
- Pour into a 9 x 13 pan and press down into pan
