Why You’ll Love This Recipe

Tomato relish is the perfect solution to too many fresh tomatoes!! The cherry tomatoes are really going crazy and it seems like every day my husband comes in with a new bowl full. In my attempts to find something to do with them other than just eat them right out of the garden or put them in salads I made up a batch of sweet tomato relish.  It was a good decision.

It is delicious and it goes with everything! Seriously, you could put this on top of anything and everything and you could also just eat it from a spoon or with tortilla chips. It is that good and is similar to a tomato chutney.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best way to store leftover tomato relish?

Store in the refrigerator in a jar or other airtight container. It will last for up to a week. It can also be frozen for up to six months.

What other kinds of tomatoes can I use?

I love cherry tomatoes but you can also use Romas or a Beefsteak tomato. You want a meatier, low moisture tomato. If using something other than cherry tomatoes, chop the tomatoes into bite size pieces.

Do I need to peel the tomatoes?

No! That is one of the beauties of this recipe, no peeling required so prep time is quick. If you prefer a saucier texture for your relish you can peel the tomatoes.

Can I can tomato relish?

This recipe should not be canned as it doesn’t container enough acid to keep it properly preserved at room temperature.

This was very good, but VERY sweet… a little too sweet. It took longer than I thought it would to reduce and thicken. I think next time I make it, I will reduce the sugar, but will definitely make it again.
