Individual servings of mini monkey bread are a delicious cinnamon pull apart bread. This fun-size version is perfect for breakfast, brunch or an anytime treat.
Several weeks ago a few of my cute little friends at church asked me when they could come over and cook with me again. I asked them what they wanted to make and one of them quickly answered Monkey Bread!
I am a fan of monkey bread so I made a date with these two cuties! Their parents graciously let me borrow them for a Saturday afternoon.
What is Monkey Bread?
Monkey bread is bite sized pieces of dough baked together with other ingredients such as cinnamon, butter and sugar. You can also use savory ingredients such as in this Cheese Pull Apart Bread or this Pizza Monkey Bread.
I have shared a recipe for monkey bread before. It is made with yeast dough that is made from scratch but I decided to simplify the recipe and use store bought biscuit dough for this mini monkey bread version.
Ingredients Needed
- Sugar
- Cinnamon
- Refrigerated biscuits. I used the Pillsbury Grand Biscuits which are 8 to a can. Each biscuit makes one mini monkey bread.
- Butter
- Brown sugar
- Cinnamon
- Powdered sugar
- Milk. You can also use whipping cream or half and half.
How to Make Mini Monkey Bread
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Spray muffin pan with cooking spray or line muffin cup with cupcake liners. Lining them makes eating and clean up easier and less messy.
- Combine 1/2 C sugar and 1 Tbsp cinnamon in a plastic baggie. Shake to mix. You can also do this in a bowl.
- Cut each biscuits into 8 pieces with a pair of scissors. Cut biscuit in half, cut each piece in half and then cut each of those pieces in half.
- Place biscuit pieces in cinnamon sugar mixture and shake to coat.
- Place biscuit pieces in muffin tin. 8 pieces to each muffin tin.
- Mix together butter, brown sugar and 1 Tbsp cinnamon.
- Drizzle 2 spoonfuls of mixture over each biscuit.
- Bake for 20 minutes or until biscuits are cooked through.
- Cool and then drizzle with powdered sugar glaze.
We let them cool a bit so more Barbie playing could occur and then drizzled them with a powdered sugar glaze.
They had a lot of fun with this and we ended up with glaze in a few places it shouldn’t be but they had fun!
Then for the best part. They got to eat them!!
We managed to save a few so they could take some home to share with their family too.
Recipe Tips
- Use the larger Grands! biscuits. We like the Homestyle variety.
- Be sure biscuit pieces are totally covered in cinnamon sugar mixture.
- I prefer using cupcake liners. It makes clean up easier and makes them less messy to eat.
- Make the glaze as thick or thin as you like by adding extra powdered sugar or milk.

Yes, they can be frozen. I think they are best enjoyed freeze the day they are made though. Store in an airtight container or zippered freezer bag and freeze for up to 2 months.
They would be delicious sprinkled with some chopped pecans on top. Add the nuts on top of the glaze.

I would give this 100 stars if I could. Recipe is both easy and delicious. We leave off the drizzle of sugar and they are still amazing. My husband has asked me to make them and freeze for his weekday breakfasts. Even my grown kids are so excited when they are here and I make them. Thank you for a family favorite!!!
