Why You’ll Love This Recipe

It’s delicious! It is the perfect combination of sweet and spicy. You can make it as spicy as you like depending on the type of pepper you use.

It’s easy. It just requires a little chopping but in about 20 minutes you can have a bowl of fresh mango salsa, just ready for you to dip into.

Make Ahead. You can do all the work the day ahead and just keep the salsa in the fridge, allowing the flavors to meld together. I will keep for 3-4 days.

Mango Salsa Ingredients

  • Fresh Mangoes. Nice and ripe. If you can’t find mangoes this would also be delicious made with fresh peaches.
  • Red Onion. If you prefer, you can use green onion but I love the flavor the red onion gives it. Chop it up small.
  • Red Bell Pepper
  • Lime
  • Cilantro
  • Jalapeno Pepper
  • Salt and Pepper

Additional Add Ins

Change the flavor and texture with one or all of these add ins.

  • Avocado. Add this in right before serving to prevent the avocado from turning brown.
  • Black Beans. Drain them first.
  • Corn. Fresh or frozen.
  • Cucumber
  • Chopped Tomatoes. I prefer Roma tomatoes
  • Pineapple. Add in fresh or canned pineapple.

How to Tell if a Mango is Ripe

  • A mango is ripe if it is soft and will give slightly when squeezed. The color of the skin is mostly red or yellow. It is also ripe if there is a yellow circle around the stem.
  • Leave mangoes on the counter to get them to ripen, do not refrigerate as this will slow down the ripening process.
  • When the mango reaches the desired ripe stage, you can place it in the refrigerator.

How to Make Mango Salsa

  • Cut up all the ingredients into small bite size pieces. Be sure and peel the mango first.
  • Place ingredients in a bowl and squeeze fresh lime juice over the top. Toss to coat.
  • Season with salt and pepper
  • Chill the mango salsa in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes so that the flavors can all meld together.

Pair This with:

  • Tortilla Chips
  • Veggies
  • Use as a condiment with fish tacos, shrimp, salmon or chicken

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will a mango last?

I recommend making the salsa the day before or the morning of the day you are planning on serving it to give the flavors a while to come together. The salsa will last 3-4 days in the refrigerator in an airtight container.

Can you please post the recipe? I went to iheartnaptime and there are more ingredients listed in the text of the blog entry than in the actual recipe. You mention green onions and red onions, but those aren’t in the actual recipe. Could you please post the whole thing?

Jeni, Not sure why those ingredients aren’t there. I can’t go in and change the recipe since it is not on my blog but add in 1/2 red onion, chopped. More or less according to your personal taste. And 3-4 green onions chopped. Enjoy!
