Copycat Cheese Bread
I love bread and adore bread and cheese. I crave bread, cheese and garlic.
They say “Man can not live by bread alone” but I bet if you added some cheese and garlic to it you could!
I am always looking for a new way to combine bread, cheese and garlic and today’s recipe for a Copycat Black Angus Cheese Bread is the perfect way to satisfy that craving. The Black Angus restaurants are no longer in business so I’m so glad I can make this delicious bread at home!
Ingredients:
- Loaf of French bread. I buy the 1 lb. loaf from the grocery store bakery but you could also use a baguette. The recipe calls for one loaf but I have found that there is enough spread for 2 loaves.
- Cheese. The recipe calls for Monterey jack and asiago cheese but I have also made it with a Colby/Jack blend and it was wonderful too.
- Mayonnaise. I use regular not low fat.
- Green Onions. Chop and use the white part and the green part.
- Garlic. I prefer fresh, minced garlic but you could substitute with garlic powder, use 1 tsp of garlic powder.
How to Make Garlic Cheese Bread
- Cut loaf of bread in half lengthwise.
- In a bowl, combine butter, cheeses, garlic, mayo and green onions.
- Spread desired amount of mixture over the top. (I only used about a 1/2 of the mixture for one loaf) Refrigerate any leftover spread to use later. Use within 2-3 days.
- Bake at 350 degrees F for 7-10 minutes and then place under the broiler for a few minutes. The cheese should be nice and bubbly and golden brown in spots.

The garlic cheese mixture can be made ahead of time and kept in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. Spread and bake the bread right before serving. Serve warm for best results.
Can I use different kinds of cheese?
Feel free to experiment with your favorite combination of cheeses. It’s a great way to use up the cheese you have in the refrigerator. Don’t forget the garlic though!
Does leftover bread need to be refrigerated?
If you end up with any leftovers, wrap it up air tight and keep it stored in the refrigerator.
Can I freeze cheese bread?
Prepare the bread according to recipe below. Allow it to cool and then wrap well in plastic wrap or foil. Freeze for up to 3 months.
When ready to enjoy, remove wrapping and place frozen bread on a baking sheet and bake at 300 degrees F for 15-20 minutes or until heated through.
How to Reheat Garlic Cheese Bread
Oven Method: Wrap bread in foil and rewarm in the oven at 350 degrees F for about 10 minutes.
Microwave Method: Warm in the microwave for only 10 seconds . If you do it longer the bread will get hard and tough. I prefer warming in the oven if at all possible.

Garlic Cheese Bread
Ingredients
- 1 lb. French bread
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 cup Monterey Jack cheese shredded
- 1 cup asiago cheese shredded
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 1 cup green onions chopped
- 2 cloves garlic finely minced
Instructions
- Split French bread loaf into halves horizontally.
- Mix butter, cheeses, mayonnaise, green onions and garlic in a bowl, blending well.
- Spread the cut side of bread with spread.
- Bake at 350degrees for 7 minutes, then place under broiler about 3 minutes longer.
- Cut into slices and serve.

Now, to take this to the next level, serve with sliced steak and a pico de gallo on the side, as Black Angus used to do! Family is requesting this for dinner tonight. We will love it.
