Inspired by the Cafe Yumm restaurant in Oregon, this Yumm Sauce is a creamy, sauce that is perfect served on just about anything!
What is Yumm Sauce?
Yumm Sauce was originated by Cafe Yumm, an Oregon based restaurant. It is the delicious creamy, sauce they put on their Yum Yum bowls. It has a thicker texture and amazing flavor. You are going to love being able to create this delicious homemade yumm sauce at home.
What is Yumm Sauce Made of?
- Almond Flour. I use the Bob’s Red Mill brand and it is fairly easy to find in the baking aisle of the grocery store. If you can’t find almond flour you can use 1/4 cup of almonds. Almond flour will give you a creamier sauce.
- Nutritional Yeast. This can be a bit harder to find but Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods carries it and you can find it on Amazon.
- Oil. Use a light flavored oil such as avocado oil or canola oil.
- Chickpeas or Garbanzo beans. I used the canned variety
- Soybeans. Canned soybeans can be tricky to find so you can just substitute with more garbanzo beans.
- Lemon juice. Fresh squeezed
- Seasoning. Salt, curry powder, oregano, dried cilantro
I found this copy cat recipe over at food.com and it tastes pretty much just like the real thing! Now some of the ingredients are ones that are not usually found in your average kitchen pantry but a quick trip to Whole Foods or an order on Amazon and you will have what you need.

Can you substitute the soybeans for more chickpeas? Do the soybeans affect the flavor of the sauce?
Leigh Anne says
I have substituted chickpeas for soybeans and it worked great so you could probably do it the other way too! Give it a try and let me know.

I LOVE Yum Yum bowls. Every time we drive through Eugene, we have to stop at that restaurant, which is about once a year. This will be my first attempt at trying them at home. Thanks for the tips and for saving us an eight hour drive;)

I have discovered it! Thanks.

Thanks for the recipe. My husband, myself, and my two teenage girls loved these bowls. We had them last month and are having them again in Feb. It is rare we find a recipe all 4 people like. Love it.
I did use the black soy beans from Whole Foods and it was terrific. The black soy beans in a can were the only one’s I could find. I will have to look at other stores to see if I can find something else.
DO YOU THINK THE YUMMY SAUCE WOULD FREEZE?
Leigh Anne says
I have never frozen it before – you could experiment and freeze a small amount and see what happens. I wonder if it would separate once it is thawed? If you give it a try I’d love to know how it works.

We are trying the yummy bowl and sauce tonight. It had been on my mind to try it for sometime and thanks to your mention of it again in yesterday’s post- I made it to Whole Foods today for the ingrediants. The nutritional yeast is new to me and is a litte stinky.
Leigh Anne says
Dana, The yeast is a rather strange smell but when everything gets mixed up together it tastes Yummy!!

Ive always wanted to go to whole foods, but never have. Thought i knew right where it was on cornell rd!!! I thought it was right around tanasborne, mapquest told me it was down by the airport!! Im glad I finally found it, across from tanasbourne!! (back and forth, back and forth!) They didn’t have bulk almond flour and the bag was $10 so I didnt buy it. Which is why im asking if i can substitute something…
Leigh Anne says
Almond flour is expensive but you can grind your own – if you have a good blender or coffee grinder just buy almonds and make your own flour – much less expensive.
