White Chocolate Popcorn – Quick Holiday Gift Idea

by Leigh Anne on December 10, 2008

Are you one of “those” – one of “those” that has ALL of their holiday gifts purchased and wrapped??

I must admit I am kinda one of “those.”   The gifts for my children and family are bought and wrapped (o.k. except for a couple!) but every year I find myself scrambling for all those miscellaneous gifts – you know the ones -the teachers, the neighbors, etc.

At church we are assigned certain women that we have the opportunity to visit each month. Yesterday was my day to do my December visit and traditionally I take some type of gift with me.  I found myself scrambling!

I have a few other things to do this week including making dessert for 70 people on Tuesday and dinner for 90 on Thursday so I needed something quick, easy and yummy.

Last holiday season my friend Jeanne dropped by a bag of yummy white chocolate popcorn.  We loved it – in fact I am not sure the family even got to eat any of it because I think I consumed most of it myself!  I love popcorn – especially when it is covered with white chocolate and mixed with M & M’s, pretzels and marshmallows!

Over the last year I have shared a few other popcorn recipes with you.  There was the yummy Caramel Corn, the Bunny Munch and the White Chocolate and Candy Corn Popcorn

I decided a batch of Jeanne’s popcorn was just the thing – I had the ingredients on hand and it would be quick to throw together.  I used microwave popcorn so that made it even quicker!

In my stash of wrapping paper, boxes and containers I had these cute little plastic popcorn boxes I had picked up in the dollar bin at Target.

So if you find yourself in need of a quick gift for a neighbor, friend or teacher give Jeanne’s White Chocolate Popcorn a try!

Do you have a favorite gift you give to neighbors and friends at the holidays?  Please share by leaving a comment below!

One Year Ago:   The Cookie Jar -  Hidden Surprises

White Chocolate Popcorn

2 bags microwave popcorn (butter kind)

12 – 16 oz. white chocolate chips, melted

3/4 C M & M’s

3/4 C peanuts (or more M & M’s)

1 1/2 C stick pretzels

1 C mini marshmallows (I wish I had used more)

6 oz. dark or milk chocolate

Pop popcorn, remove unpopped kernels.  Put popcorn in a big bowl.  In separate bowl, mix together melted white chocolate, M & M’s, peanuts and pretzels until coated with white chocolate.  Pour over popcorn and mix to coat popcorn with white chocolate.  Spread onto two jelly roll pans or cookie sheets.

Drizzle with melted dark or milk chocolate.  Refrigerate for 10 minutes or longer until chocolate has hardened and popcorn breaks apart in bit pieces.  Munch away!

Tina,

Thanks for the link – it looks yummy! A fun twist on the popcorn idea. Will definitely be giving it a try. What doesn’t taste good covered in white chocolate!?!?!?

What a great idea! You are so on top of things (although I confess I’m one of “those” people, too). I had to laugh at your offside comment about making dinner for 90 and dessert for 70 – as if that is an everyday occurrence. You are amazing!

Oh, that is definitely the perfect Visiting Teaching gift…if you can get it out the door instead of eating it all yourself! It looks SO pretty too!

Ohhh we have those popcorn containers for movie nights at home and we love them, I just knew I should have picked up some last time I was at Target. Thank you for yet another awesome recipe, I just love you! We were considering making your brown bag caramel popcorn but this looks more festive :)

Love the recipe idea! I think I will try it this year! One of my favorites is to give a loaf of fresh bread with homemade jam. I have also given out the caramelled apples that you made a little while ago… covered with drizzled red & green chocolate!

We have this great morning show here. It’s called Studio 5. Recently they made this adorable clip board for a teacher gift. Here is the link. They also made homemade lip gloss. Fun!

My 10 and 6 year old daughters and I just made this for teacher gifts. I even bought the Target popcorn holders for them. We did three bags of popcorn and used candy chocolate rather than chips as I think it melts smoother and easier. Now if we just don’t eat so much we can’t make the 5 teacher gifts we need. It is definitely a hit! Thank you!

Leigh Anne… how many servings does this recipe make?

14 Rachel Jensen December 30, 2008 at 8:48 am

MMMMMM… this recipe is so hard to give away since it is so YUMMY to eat! Thank goodness it makes a lot. :o ) I was able to make 20 individual size servings for my husband to give out at work (put them in the “C1″ size cello bags) with the first batch, and 8 family size bags (“C4″ size bags) with the 2nd batch. Thanks for always sharing your great ideas and recipes, Leigh Anne!

Okay, this looks delicious. When do you add the marshmallows, though — with the pretzels and M&Ms? Or after?
