Rice Cooker Mac and Cheese is a great recipe for kids to help make in the kitchen!
Doesn’t every kid love macaroni & cheese. Â I know I did as a kid and my kids loved it. Mac & cheese always seemed to be a go to dinner or lunch because it was so easy – just grab that blue box, add some milk and you were set.
Today I’ve got a better option for you. Â It’s just as easy, it tastes better and the kids can do it themselves! This recipe uses a rice cooker. It is fun to make and safer to use than the stove.
Ingredients
- Pasta
- Chicken Broth
- Salt
- Milk
- Shredded Cheese, I use a combination of mozzarella and cheddar
How to Make Rice Cooker Mac and Cheese
- Add the chicken broth and the pasta into the rice cooker. Â
- Cook for 15 minutes, or until all of the liquid is absorbed.
- Stir in the milk and cheese.
- Cook for 15 minutes to melt the cheese and soften the noodles.
Tips
- The cooking times for this recipe may vary a bit depending on your rice cooker. Â The first time you make it you will want to keep an eye on the first step to see how long it takes for the noodles to absorb the chicken stock
- To make the mac and cheese more creamy, just add in a little extra milk.

When I saw this yesterday I couldn’t wait to try it, and my 8 year old son decided he wanted to make the whole thing! He did a great job and it was delicious. BUT – so much stuck to the bottom of the cooker. Do you have a trick to prevent getting a layer of brown, crusted macaroni on the bottom?
Leigh Anne says
You just need to turn the rice cooker off a little sooner to prevent the browning on the bottom.
