This easy Sweet and Spicy Chicken is the perfect combination of a little heat and a touch of sweetness. And it will quickly become a family favorite. In comes together in about 20 minutes and is a perfect weeknight dinner idea.
This sweet and spicy chicken reminds me of one of my favorite dishes I always get at our favorite Chinese restaurant. It’s not too sweet and it’s not to spicy. It’s just right! The prep work is minimal, just cut up your chicken, mix together your sauce and you’re ready to cook it up in a pan. Twenty minutes and you’ve got a great meal your whole family is going to love.
Unfortunately for me, our favorite Chinese restaurant is a little too far away for those weeknight take out needs. We have to wait to enjoy it on the weekends when we have time to drive to the other side of town. Because of this, I’ve had to figure out how to make a lot of my favorite Chinese food dishes at home. This Sweet & Spicy Chicken quickly became a make at home favorite.
Sweet Spicy Chicken
Not only does this dish come together quickly, but you probably have what you need on hand. Some frozen chicken out of the freezer, a batch of rice and you can serve it with whatever veggie you happen to have on hand. I had some leftover peppers from another meal so I quickly sliced them up and sauteed them in some olive oil. They were the perfect accompaniment for this Sweet and Sticky Chicken.
If you’ve got some none heat eaters in your family, just leave out the asian chile sauce. Coating the chicken in cornstarch before cooking it gives the sauce a little more texture to grab on to and it creates the perfect sticky texture I love so much in Chinese food.
This dish is better and quicker than take out! Next time you’ve got that craving for Chinese takeout give this sweet and spicy chicken a chance!

5 QT. NON STICK FRYING PAN – this is my go to frying pan. The one I use more than any other. I love that it has a lid.
