Sweet and spicy chicken

This easy Sweet and Spicy Chicken is the perfect combination of a little heat and a touch of sweetness.  It comes together in about 20 minutes and is a perfect weeknight dinner idea.

Sweet and spicy chicken

Every one needs a quick and easy stir fry recipe in their dinner rotation. It comes together quickly and you can add in as many vegetables as you like. Twenty minutes and you’ve got a great meal your whole family is going to love.

Not only does this dish come together quickly, but you probably have what you need on hand.  Some frozen chicken out of the freezer, a batch of rice and you can serve it with whatever veggie you happen to have on hand.  I had some leftover peppers from another meal so I quickly sliced them up and sauteed them in some olive oil.  They were the perfect accompaniment for this Sweet and Sticky Chicken.

Sweet Spicy Chicken

Ingredients Needed

  • Chicken Breasts, boneless, skinless
  • Brown Sugar
  • Honey
  • Soy Sauce
  • Minced Ginger
  • Chopped Garlic
  • Asian Chili Sauce
  • Vegetable Oil
  • Cornstarch
  • Green Onions, for garnish

How To Make Sweet and Spicy Chicken

  • Mix together brown sugar, honey, soy sauce, ginger, garlic and asian chili sauce.
  • Place chicken in bag or bowl and coat sliced chicken with cornstarch.
  • Heat oil in pan over medium heat.  Add chicken and brown on all sides.
  • Pour sauce mixture over chicken.  Simmer, uncovered until sauce thickens.  About 5-8 minutes.
  • Serve over rice, with a side of sauteed vegetables.  Sprinkle with green onion if desired.

Tips

  • You can use either boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, both will work.
  • Coat the chicken in cornstarch before cooking it. This gives the sauce a little more texture to grab on to and it creates the perfect sticky texture I love so much in Chinese food.
  • I used red peppers but you could add in any vegetable you like. Other things that work well are carrots, broccoli, snow peas, and asparagus.
