Turn your favorite soda pop into soda ice cream with only 3 ingredients! It’s quick, easy and delicious!
It’s still a bit cold and rainy here in Portland, Oregon but we are looking forward to some warm sunny summer days. One of my favorite ways to celebrate summer is with homemade ice cream or a icy cold bottle of my favorite soda. So why not combine the two! Today’s Soda Ice Cream Recipe is the perfect combination of cold soda and ice cream. It may or may not get up to 95 degrees in Portland any time soon but we can still enjoy soda pop ice cream.
Soda Ice Cream Ingredients
This ice cream recipe is easy to make and only requires three ingredients.
- Soda. Use your favorite flavor. I love orange or red cream soda but any flavor will work.
- Sweetened Condensed Milk.
- Whole Milk. Whole milk will give you a creamier ice cream then 2 percent or something else.
Flavor Variations
- Root Beer. This one totally reminded me of the root beer whirls we use to get at The Spot Drive In in Kenosha, Wisconsin where the girls roller skated out to our car and hung the tray on the window!
- Orange. This created a yummy orange creamsicle flavor effect which is one of my favorite flavors of all times.
- Black Cherry. We loved this one too! This recipe works with any flavor of soda.
How to Make Ice Cream with Soda
- Pour four cups of your favorite COLD soda into a bowl. The ice cream will freeze much faster if the soda is cold. If you forget to chill the soda in the fridge, just put it in the freezer for 15-20 minutes.
- Add in a can of sweetened condensed milk.
- Add in one cup of whole milk. I definitely recommend using whole milk. This is an icy ice cream so the whole milk adds some creaminess.
- Pour the mixture into ice cream maker and process according to manufacturers directions.

Just tried this with Peach New York Seltzer. I did a half-batch, since I only have a 1 1/2-qt ice cream maker (and only two bottles of the soda.) It turned out really well–and I’m not even a fan of peach!
In a couple of days, I’m going to try it with Moxie.

Luke, So glad you loved it too – it is fun to experiment with different sodas.
Luke says
Update: Moxie did not work out–it was still soupy after 20 minutes. I’m pretty sure it’s because Moxie has considerably less sugar than most sodas. I’ll have to figure something else out for that one.
I went back to New York Seltzer today; used the Root Beer flavor for a batch. I only churned it 15 minutes this time, and I think it turned out really well.

A friend just made us some ice cream a couple weeks ago using just sweetened condensed milk and cream soda. That led me to search for recipes online and I found this! I will definitely have to try! I already have a Cuisinart ice cream maker!

The Spot does not have the roller skaters, but the food is still great and your ice cream recipe sounds yum!

When I saw your recipe for Soda Pop Ice Cream, it brought back wonderful memories from my childhood. We had a recipe that we used then and we still use it today. Now, this goes way back to when Orange Crush came in the brown bottles (nothing tastes as good as it did when we were kids). I have adapted the recipe to today’s bottling of Orange Crush. This is made in an electric ice cream churn or a hand cranked one. One 2 liter Orange Crush, one can sweetened condensed milk, one small can crushed pineapple, (ice and rock salt for the churn). Put the Orange Crush, sweetened condensed milk, and pineapple in the churn; cover, add ice and rock salt and churn. Eat slowly because it causes brain freeze!

I forgot the name of the recipe…Orange Pineapple Sherbert!

Cindy, I love those recipes that transport me back to my childhood! So glad this one did for you. Love the idea of your version with the crushed pineapple.
