Strawberry and avocado salad in a bowl

Strawberry Avocado Salad is a dressed up version of the popular salad you know. The balsamic poppy seed dressing and spiced nuts make this salad one of a kind.

Strawberry avocado salad

A salad made with spinach and strawberry is a classic and so delicious!  I decided to make a good thing even better by adding homeade dressing, avocado, and spiced nuts! I love a little crunch on my salad and the addition of cinnamon, cumin, paprika and vanilla to the sugar on the nuts gives them amazing flavor and crunch.

This strawberry avocado salad has an amazing dressing. I took the traditional poppy seed dressing up a notch by using balsamic vinegar.

All the flavors in the salad work so well together and I especially loved the spiced nuts and the nice little surprise they give the salad.

Ingredients Needed

  • Baby Spinach
  • Romaine Lettuce
  • Avocados
  • Strawberries
  • Slivered Almonds
  • Sugar
  • Butter
  • White Balsamic Vinegar
  • Oil, Canola Oil and Olive Oil
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Poppy Seeds
  • Sesame Seeds
  • Spices – Paprika, Cinnamon, Cumin, Dried Mustard, Minced Onions, Salt and Pepper

How To Make Strawberry Avocado Salad

  • Mix oils and balsamic vinegar together with sugar, poppy and sesame seeds, paprika, dried mustard, minced onions, salt and pepper in a bottle with a lid.
  • Shake to combine.
  • Refrigerate dressing until ready to use.
  • Melt butter in a pan over medium head.
  • Add slivered almonds, sugar, cinnamon, cumin, paprika, and vanilla extract to melted butter.
  • Cook over medium heat until sugar has melted and almonds are coated.
  • Pour coated almonds onto parchment paper to cool.
  • Combine lettuce, spinach, sliced strawberries, avocado, and spiced almonds into a bowl.
  • Shake dressing unil combined and pour over salad.
  • Toss and serve.

Tips

  1. Strawberries are best when they are fully red and have a sweet smell.
  2. Choose an avocado that yields to gentle pressure. The peel under the stem should be bright green.
  3. Keep a close eye on your almonds while you are cooking them in sugar. They can burn quickly.

This salad was a delicious change from the strawberry spinach salad I usually make with feta cheese. The avocado and spiced nuts were so good. Loved the dressing. I added some rotisserie chicken I had on hand and it made a yummy summer meal for my husband and I. I can’t wait to have he leftovers for lunch tomorrow. I will make this again.

Your salad looks so good, Leigh Anne! I have been experimenting with salads lately. Made one last night with blueberries in it. Mmmm. Strawberries and avocados sounds like an awesome combination 🙂
