TWO ROOT BEER MILKSHAKES WITH STRAWS AND WHIPPED CREAM

You only needs 3 ingredients to make a delicious root beer milkshake. Blend them together for the perfect summer time treat!

TWO ROOT BEER MILKSHAKES WITH STRAWS AND WHIPPED CREAM

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

Root beer milkshakes are one of those childhood food memories for me.  It has all of the flavor of a homemade root beer float, but in the form of a root beer milk shake.  Sometimes it is called a root beer freeze, but since our local drive-in from my hometown called them a root beer whirl so do I.  It’s the perfect treat for a hot summer day.

TWO ROOT BEER MILKSHAKES IN GLASSES

Ingredients Needed

  • Root Beer Soda. Use your favorite brand but I prefer A&W root beer or Henry Weinhards root beer.
  • Root Beer Extract. In order to duplicate that homemade root beer flavor you must use root beer extract in addition to root beer soda..  Most people make root beer milkshakes out of just root beer soda and ice cream, but that never has quite enough root beer flavor for me.
  • Vanilla Ice Cream. Use a good quality of ice cream. Our favorite is Breyer’s Natural Vanilla Bean Ice Cream

Tips from Leigh Anne

  1. Be sure your root beer is cold before adding it to your root beer milkshake for the best texture and consistency.
  2. Serve your root beer shake in a cold, frosted glass for the best results.

Where Can I Find Root Beer Extract?

Root beer extract is available on the baking aisle with all the other extracts but not all grocery stores carry it.  You can also find it on Amazon. Using extract rather in addition to root beer soda makes a huge difference in the flavor of your root beer milkshake.

How to Make a Root Beer Milkshake

  • Scoop ice cream into blender.
  • Add in root beer and root beer extract.

  • Adjust the consistency by adding more soda or more ice cream.
  • Pour into a serving glass.
  • Garnish with some whipped cream, a cherry or some sprinkles if desired. Add a straw or just use a spoon!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use other flavors of soda?

Of course! I also like to use a cream soda, coke, dr. pepper or orange crush. Use your favorite soda.

Can I use other flavors of ice cream?

Chocolate is a fun flavor twist with root beer. Use chocolate ice cream or add in some chocolate syrup. If adding in syrup, make sure it is cold.
