Pizza Sauce Recipe

A good pizza sauce recipe is one of the building blocks of a great pizza.  And my homemade pizza sauce does not disappoint!

We love pizza in our house, so we have tried a lot of pizza recipes.  Any good pizza starts with the two main building blocks.  A great crust and a delicious pizza sauce.  I have you covered with my pizza dough recipe and this homemade pizza sauce.

Homemade Pizza Sauce

If I ever had to choose just one food item to eat the rest of my life, it would be pizza.  I love pizza.  And my favorite pizza is cheese pizza.  This may sound boring, but if you have a great crust and a delicious pizza sauce, cheese is all you need.

Homemade Pizza Sauce

For me, the key to a good pizza sauce is a good quality tomato.  I used canned tomatoes and my favorite brands are San Marzano canned tomatoes.  Because it uses canned tomatoes it goes together very quickly and just has a few other simple ingredients.  I let it cook down for about 20 minutes or so to thicken it up.

Even if you like more than just cheese on your pizza, you will still love this pizza sauce recipe.  Just make sure to put your toppings under the cheese.  This keeps the toppings from drying out and allows the cheese to melt and get a little toasty.  But the first thing you add to the crust should be this delicious sauce.

You only need a thin layer of sauce.  Be sure and leave an edge of the crust exposed, not covered by sauce. Now the question is – how do you cut your pizza?  I grew up with pizza cut into squares but then I moved out West and they cut their pizza into pie shaped slices.  How do you like yours??

Some of my favorite ways to use homemade pizza dough:

  • Proscuitto, Blackberry & Basil Pizza
  • Hawaiian Pizza

My favorite kitchen tools I use to make HOMEMADE PIZZA SAUCE:
6 PIECE MEASURING CUP SET – Everyone needs at least one set of measuring cups, I have 4 sets!

MAGNETIC MEASURING SPOONS – I love these things.  They are magnetic so they stay together in the drawer!
