Made with delicious, healthy ingredients such as frozen bananas, almond butter and almond milk, this Chocolate Almond Butter Smoothie Bowl is the perfect way to start the day with a nutritious breakfast.
We start back to school here in Portland in a few weeks. School is definitely going to look different this year for most of us but one thing that is going to be the same is the kiddos are going to need a good healthy breakfast to start the day off.
When my kids were young breakfast could be a bit of a challenge, especially when I had children going to three different schools and three different start times. Making sure all four of them had a good breakfast before they left for school was tricky. A Chocolate Almond Milk Smoothie Bowl is the perfect solution. It’s full of heathy and delicious ingredients including almond milk, almond butter, bananas, honey and cacao powder. You can mix up a big batch before the first one leaves and then put the rest of it in the fridge for the others kids to grab when they are ready.
A smoothie bowl also makes a great after school snack too!
Using the Albertsons line of O Organics® and Open Nature® non-dairy milk alternatives even your non dairy eaters can enjoy it. Open Nature products are minimally process, high in protein, 100 % USDA certified organic plant based and gluten free. If you have family members with special dietary issues these products are perfect. The products are also budget friendly which is always a big help.
How to Make a Smoothie Bowl
Bananas. The key to a nice thick, delicious smoothie bowl is using frozen bananas. I keep a bag full bananas in the freezer so I can just grab them and whip up a smoothie bowl. It’s the perfect way to use those ripe bananas too – freeze them. The frozen banana is what gives this smoothie bowl its thick, smooth texture and adds some natural sweetness.
Milk. You can use O Organics Unsweetened Almond Milk or Vanilla Almond Milk, whatever your preference. It’s plant based, non dairy , and non GMO. Of course, you can also use regular milk if you prefer. If someone needs to eat breakfast on the go, just add in more milk and the smoothie can be eaten through a straw.
Almond Butter. Almond butter adds flavor and protein. I like using the Open Nature creamy Almond Butter but they also have a Cashew Butter.
Cacao Powder or Cocoa Powder – adds a little bit of chocolate goodness.
Honey. If you need an extra little sweetness add in some honey.
Vanilla Extract. You could also use almond extract
Combine all the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.
I love to garnish my chocolate almond milk smoothie bowl with some additional sliced bananas, sliced almonds and some Open Nature Bittersweet Chocolate Chunks.
I shopped at Albertsons in my local area, but you can also find O Organics® and Open Nature® plant-based products at the Albertsons Companies family of stores, including Albertsons, Safeway, ACME Markets, Jewel-Osco, Vons, Randalls, Shaw’s Supermarket, Star Market, and Tom Thumb.
