With the holidays coming it’s time to start planning that holiday menu and at our house, homemade dinner rolls are always at the top of the list.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe
Thanksgiving is in just a few days, do you have your menu all figured out?  I texted my kids a list of everything that was on our menu and I immediately got a text back asking, what about the dinner rolls?  Homemade rolls are required at our house.  I know for a lot of people, working with yeast can be a scary thing.  I had so many questions about it, I actually wrote a whole post on how to work with yeast.  You can find it here. It’s actually a lot easier than you may think and the results are so worth it.  For me, nothing beats a homemade, freshly baked loaf of bread or pan of rolls!
The perfect dinner roll is light, soft, tender and warm. Â Now you can get light and soft rolls at the bakery but getting them warm, fresh out of the oven just doesn’t happen unless you make them at home! Making your own dinner rolls does take a little time but the results are so worth it.

These look wonderful, and I can’t wait to make them for Easter. If I wanted to take them to bake there so they are fresh from the oven, can I make them into rolls and take them with me? My fear is that they will keep rising and become too big.
Leigh Anne says
Depending on how longer your travel time is you can always refrigerate the dough first, roll them out and take them with you and they take longer to rise.
Stephanie Heisey says
Could you do these in a bread machine up to first rising and then take out and form and rise again. Would probably have to cut recipe in half to fit though!
Leigh Anne says
Stephanie, I’ve never used a bread machine so I’m not sure. Bet it’s worth a try though!
Tim says
Just made a test run of these for tomorrow. They turned out excellent! Nothing better than a hot from the oven roll with a little butter and a thick slice of cheddar cheese between it. Unless of course it’s one with some Dollywood’s Apple Butter on it because that was even better. Going to keep one pan of the raw rolls in the fridge for tomorrow and bake them off right before dinner.
Tim says
Can I make these today up to the point of putting them into the oven and then put them in the fridge until tomorrow?
Summer says
Is the butter in the recipe melted or just softened?
Leigh Anne says
Summer, The butter that goes in the dough is just softened but the butter that is spread on top is melted.
