Tradition says this recipe is the original cobb salad dressing that was served on the original Cobb Salad from the Brown Derby Restaurant in Hollywood!
Cobb Salad is a classic American salad that is said to have originated back in 1937 at the Brown Derby Restaurant in Hollywood. Today’s recipe is rumored to be a copycat version of that original Brown Derby dressing recipe. Since I wasn’t around in 1937 to taste test it I’ll have to take the internet’s word for it.
This dressing is the perfect thing to add to my Classic Cobb Salad.

Tips from Leigh Anne
I find that homemade dressing gets better after it sits in the fridge for a while. Be sure to store leftover dressing in the refrigerator in an airtight container.

Cut the salt to a pinch! This recipe was way too salt, for our taste. I added extra everything else to balance it out.

This is delicious!!! I confess I thought it might be underwhelming with no ‘spices’ paprika, turmeric, thyme or what have you. 🙂 It was amazing!!!! My teen daughter and I are both very ‘flavorful’ not bland cooks (we enjoy a lot of ethnic and international food) and we both were quite amazed at how yummy this was – and the ingredients are sooooo easy!!!! I did use white not red wine vinegar (out of red) and probably added closer to a tsp of sugar and more pepper and more lemon. I used pink salt and I used a mix of avocado, sunflower and olive oil. I also used fresh garlic. Thank you for such a great recipe. I look forward to exploring your site. 🙂
