Pioneer Woman Dinner Party and Giveaway

by Leigh Anne on November 6, 2009

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

I am hosting a dinner party and you are invited!  There is also a really cool prize involved with this dinner party.  You are going to want it – I promise!!

As much as I’d love to have each and every one of you over to my house for dinner – wouldn’t that be fun!? – it’s just not possible.

So I’d like to invite you to a virtual dinner party.  And you get to help plan the menu.

The only requirement is that the recipe has to come from Pioneer Woman.  You do know Pioneer Woman, don’t you?

Pioneer Woman is a ROCK STAR blogger.  This woman gets thousands of comments on her posts, was recently featured in People Magazine, the Bonnie Hunt show and  just came out with her own cookbook!  She is my idol!

Over the last few years of blogging I have tried lots of her recipes.  I have yet to find one that disappoints.

This past week I was in an apple mood so I baked up her Apple Cake in an Iron Skillet.  I love cooking anything in my cast iron skillet!

Apple Cake

It was yummy and delicious and perfect with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, just like Pioneer Woman promised.  As good as the cake was I must admit my favorite Pioneer Woman apple dessert is her Apple Dumplings - oh my gosh!!  They are amazing!

To join my dinner party all you have to do is let me know what your favorite Pioneer Woman recipe is.  Just leave a comment to let me know.  If you haven’t made any Pioneer Woman recipes yet go on over and pay her a visit and look through her recipe archives.  You’ll be drooling soon.  Then come back and leave a comment and let me know which one you are going to try!

I can’t wait to see what some of your favorites are.

Now to the prize part.  With the help of random.org, one of you will be selected to receive a FREE copy of Pioneer Woman’s new cookbook!!

Pioneer Woman
Of course, the cookbook is full of amazing Pioneer Woman photography.  Step by step photos of her amazing food.  Many of my favorite PW recipes are in the book as well as several new ones I am looking forward to trying.  I think the first one on the To Try list will be the Breakfast Bowls – what a fun way to serve breakfast and clean out your frig!!

So just leave a comment sharing your favorite PW recipe and keep your fingers crossed.  To earn an extra entry, just  blog about my dinner party or share it on Facebook.  Come back and leave another comment with the link to your post!

Here are some of our family PW favorites!

Brisket

Crash Hot Potatoes

Yogurt Cream & Berries

Steak Bites

Onion Strings

Strawberry Shortcake Cake

French Breakfast Puffs

The Best Lasagna Ever

My Most Favorite Salad

Can’t wait to hear your favorites!

How can you NOT love her Chocolate Sheet Cake? It is so good, I have a hard time sharing it. We also really like the Yogurt-Marmalade Cake. Much better than it sounds, really. And the Blackberry Cobbler, part 2. Sounds like I should bring dessert, huh?

Everyone also really enjoys Chicken Spaghetti, Bacon Wrapper Jalapenos, MM’s Favorite Sandwich, and so many more. PW has so many wonderful recipes and they are a good mixture of down-home recipes and things you would make for a special night with company. I can always find something great at PW Cooks.

Thanks so much!!

2 Jenny November 6, 2009 at 4:27 am

I just made her pumpkin muffins last night…they are SO yummy!!!

3 Nicole November 6, 2009 at 4:29 am

18 Teena November 6, 2009 at 7:14 am

I became aware of the Pioneer Woman site through, Your Homebased Mom. (thank you) The recipe I have made the most has to be Hot Crash Potatoes! They have now become a favorite of one of my daughters and my sister loves them too. So many options……..not enough time!

19 Tracy DQ November 6, 2009 at 7:28 am

I’ve made the apple cake in a skillet too, my kids loved to help with this recipe and it was super easy and a lot of fun. We also like the chicken tenders recipe. :) I’m so excited for this cookbook!

Ree (P/W) at the Tattered Cover in Denver. She’s very nice!

26 chris November 6, 2009 at 7:44 am

This summer I served the Crash Box potatoes to my family. They loved them and started making them at their own homes. We probably made them an average of twice a week all summer!

27 Melissa November 6, 2009 at 7:50 am

I’d love to come to the dinner party! ;) I’m going to have to try the “Coffee Cake, Literally!” My mouth was seriously watering just reading about it. I love all the photos of each step too! For someone who’s more visual like me, as opposed to saavy in the kitchen, it really helps! :)

28 April Thorpe November 6, 2009 at 7:54 am

In our house, it’s all about the Stuffed Mushrooms, baby! Oh, and I just saw her Decadent Hot Chocolate recipe and am seriously intrigued.

29 Robin November 6, 2009 at 7:56 am

I’m getting ready to make the Peanut Butter Pie for a dinner party next weekend. I can hardly wait!

30 ursula November 6, 2009 at 8:03 am

I’ve made the Steak Salad from the Pioneer Woman website before….and my husband loves the dressing……it’s made with ginger and it’s perfect for summer. I was just at her page the other day and am set to make the Beef with Broccoli – - much more healthy than my local Chinese take-out.

31 Janet November 6, 2009 at 8:08 am

I love her chicken spaghetti recipe — yummy! What a great giveaway!

32 kelly Walker November 6, 2009 at 8:09 am

We love the Crash Hot Potatoes. The new cookbook is on my “Things I Would Like” list. Looking forward to trying more yummy recipes.

36 Dancin Queen November 6, 2009 at 8:34 am

I agree with you: the apple dumplings. I was actually just looking at that recipe again yesterday as I have a bunch of apple from the orchard that I need to do something with. P.S. I think you are great too! Just made your dulce de leche with apples. So good.

37 Kelly November 6, 2009 at 8:51 am

We have to pick one! Mine would be steak bites!

38 Cherilyn November 6, 2009 at 8:58 am

How could I not have tried her recipes? They ALL sound so good! I’ve got some apples just waiting to be used and I’m going to have to try those yummy apple dumplings ~ today!!! Sounds like I need to try her potatoes too, in all their varieties! Hmmm, how do I choose what to make for dinner tonight? Thanks Leigh Anne, for sharing!

39 Emmy November 6, 2009 at 8:59 am

Her Texas Sheet Cake is amazing! That is the only recipe of hers I have actually made. I have a list of others I want to make. I would love to come to your dinner party and I’ll make the cake! ;)

40 Jennifer November 6, 2009 at 9:04 am

Our favorite is Marlboro Man’s Favorite Sandwich. Yummy, yummy! I could eat one right now!

41 Megan November 6, 2009 at 9:04 am

I recently made her Strawberry Shortcake Cake and it was to-die-for. My entire family was raving and all I did was follow her simple instructions. The cake was gorgeous and delicious like all of her other recipes. She’s definitely my idol, too!

42 Jelli November 6, 2009 at 9:05 am

I’ve been meaning to try her spaghetti bolognese for weeks. I finally have some ground meat in the freezer, so hopefully I’ll get around to it soon. I heart Pioneer Woman’s site, and now you have me craving those dumplings. MMM.

43 Jeanine November 6, 2009 at 9:11 am

PW Chicken Parmigiana, a family favorite. YUM!

44 Karen November 6, 2009 at 9:20 am

I too love the Pioneer woman, and was disappointed that I didn’t go see her when she visited SLC.

45 Nancy F November 6, 2009 at 9:23 am

Like many, I have made and LOVE the crash hot potatoes. What’s great about them is that you can tweak it so many yummy ways. I haven’t made her chocolate sheet cake yet only because I don’t have a sheet cake pan. But, I’m thinking I’m going to have to figure out a way around that because I just can’t wait any longer to have some! Ree is going to be in NY in December, and I have been wondering how I’m going to hold out until then to buy her book so she can sign it! Hope I win, but I know whoever wins will enjoy her book! Thanks for the dinner invite!

46 Jennifer November 6, 2009 at 9:23 am

Since I am in charge of bringing a pie for Thanksgiving dessert (one of many desserts laid out that day!), I think I will try the Caramel Pumpkin Gingersnap Cheesecake (So There) recipe. Sounds delish and a good break from the standard pumpkin pie!

Also- I will post this dinner party on both Face Book and my Blog.
Thank you for a great and fun idea!
Jenn

47 Melanee November 6, 2009 at 9:25 am

I love so many of her recipes. (And yours too!) Some of our favorites are peach crisp with maple cream sauce, baked lemon pasta, and her apple pie.

48 Melissa November 6, 2009 at 9:25 am

I absolutely adore the Poineer Woman! My favorite is the recipe for pan-seared mushrooms (Pastor Ryan)… yum. I am addicted to great mushrooms (and luckily have a local organic source!) and make them as a side at least 3 times a week.

I am also quite the cookbook collectore – so this one would be a great addition to my collection :)

49 Nancy Jean November 6, 2009 at 9:31 am

I have to give a thumbs up to Pioneer Woman’s “Chocolate Waffle Cookies”. Anyone who loves chocolate and likes things easy, this is the perfect pair. She mentions she gives them to neighborhood kids–are you kidding me. I don’t even have any leftover to give out!! They disappear quite quickly. Also, love her pumpkin muffins as well.

Have a good day.

50 Caryn L November 6, 2009 at 9:32 am

SPICY MAC & CHEESE!!!! Yumyumyumyum!! It’s just too good not to gobble it all up. Love PW! I hope I win! =)

51 Sheree November 6, 2009 at 9:39 am

56 Laurie Reiff November 6, 2009 at 9:56 am

I think she is in Southern Living this month as well.

57 Kathy Werner November 6, 2009 at 9:59 am

The apple dumplings are devine. I’ve told everyone I know about that recipe. It’s easy to make and just delicious.

58 Valeri Olson November 6, 2009 at 10:08 am

60 Donna D. November 6, 2009 at 10:14 am

One of them has to be the “Chinese Beef & Broccoli” I love Chinese food then of course the Apple Dumplings. But to the Apple Dumplings I would top it with about 1/2 Cup of half and half while it is still hot. Also there is another one that I just made it is called “Sweet Roasted Rosemary Acorn Squash Wedges” For the BIG men in my family I made them 1/2 of Acorn a piece. It was the top of the dinner.

61 Lisle November 6, 2009 at 10:16 am

I love the cauliflower soup!!

62 Cindy Dwyer November 6, 2009 at 10:20 am

65 Cassandra November 6, 2009 at 10:30 am

Simple Sesame Noodles or Crash Hot Potatoes are my faves. But there are so many more that I want to try. I love PW’s pictures and commentary on all of the recipes. I found her through your website…many thanks!

She has so many yummy recipes! I grew up on her French Breakfast Puffs and Chocolate Sheet Cake, so those are my favorite so far just because of the memories. Thanks for the chance to win one of her cookbooks!

71 Megan P. November 6, 2009 at 10:44 am

I’ve just recently started hearing about PW. I know–apparently I am out of the loop. However, I did see your link for the French Breakfast Puffs. Oh. My. Yum. I was thinking I may make them for breakfast tomorrow. Then I started thinking… I don’t really want to wait until tomorrow. 22 hours is an awfully long time to wait for sugary-cinnamony breakfast goodness. So, off I go!! Thanks for sharing the recipe!! Can’t wait to browse through more PW recipes!

72 Erin November 6, 2009 at 10:45 am

The Awesome-est Blueberry Muffins look fabulous!

77 Karen November 6, 2009 at 11:47 am

The apple dumplings-no question! Everyone LOVES them (I even used Sprite as we didn’t have any Mtn. Dew). The guys do enjoy the Marlboro Man Sandwich (the girls don’t eat much beef and blew it off).

78 Joan Callaway November 6, 2009 at 11:49 am

For me and my family it’s got to be the blackberry cobbler made with self-rising flour. My 17 year old grandson even asked for it for his birthday breakfast this past year. So easy, quick…and perfect every time whether I make it with blackberries, mixed fruit, or blueberries…straight from the freezer. Who knew anything could be so simple and delicious!

79 Denise November 6, 2009 at 11:57 am

What’s NOT to love, but the Crash Hot Potatoes are it! We found them just in time for a homeschool project on Australia. Perfect! I would LOVE to win this cookbook! Thanks for the great blog.

82 Renae W. November 6, 2009 at 12:21 pm

My absolute fave PW recipe (and I make her stuff–A LOT) is the best chocolate sheet cake, ever. I have 6 kids who are not accustomed to the taste of a homemade cake but they all thought I was the best mommy ever when I served that cake up one cool night with a glass of milk. My teens even bragged on Twitter and FB about it!

83 Melissa November 6, 2009 at 12:25 pm

I faithfully look at Pioneer Woman Cooks! I have printed her Cinnamon Rolls recipe to try (but I haven’t done it yet!). My sister-in-law made her Tres Leche cake last week and said it was delicious!

84 Julie November 6, 2009 at 12:27 pm

90 luanne November 6, 2009 at 12:43 pm

I made her apple cake in a skillet recipe 3 weeks ago for our coffee group that meets on Saturday mornings. It was great!!!! Love the site. I think I started visiting the site when you first posted her ” crash hot potato” recipe. I love your site as well. Use your recipes also!

91 Jennie November 6, 2009 at 12:48 pm

I just love her Perfect Beef Enchiladas. They really are perfect!! They taste just like you have gone into a nice Mexican restaraunt and ordered them. My husband talks about those more than anything else I have made and I’m always making new things! I love how they dish up, they hold their shape nicely and actually look like an enchilada instead of a big glob on your plate!

92 Sandy November 6, 2009 at 12:54 pm

We love her Crash Hot Potatoes. I would love to win her cookbook. I know the recipes would all be winners.

93 Helene November 6, 2009 at 1:00 pm

I have to be honest, I’ve never tried any of these recipes – but I promise I will! I love cooking – and love new “old” ideas!

96 Dawn November 6, 2009 at 1:12 pm

Love Pioneer Woman! She is amazing!! I have made many of her recipes and have loved them all. For a dinner party I would make Olive Cheese Bread – http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2007/06/olive_cheese_br/ – It makes a lot so it would be great for a dinner party. If there is any olive cheese spread left over, it is a great spread on crackers. Yum! It is time for a dinner party, just so I can make this Olive Cheese Bread!

97 Wendy November 6, 2009 at 1:15 pm

Migas for breakfast–oh so yummy!

98 Nancy November 6, 2009 at 1:20 pm

I couldn’t believe that those dumplings were going to be good. But I had to try and they were so yummy…didn’t last long and gave us good conversation as we discussed the recipe while we ate!

99 Karyn November 6, 2009 at 1:41 pm

I love, love, love Pioneer Woman and I was so excited to see her book was out! I’d love to win a copy — it can replace all of the print outs that are filling up my recipe cabinet! All of her recipes are amazing, but lately I have been addicted to the Crash Hot Potatoes — I make them several times a week! They are the perfect side dish or even all on their own, which is how I have been eating them lately… they make a great lunch!!!

100 Marah November 6, 2009 at 2:00 pm

The Crash Hot Potatoes are what led me to PW’s website. I have also tried the Asian Noodle Salad and want to try the Tres Leches Cake next. I would LOVE her cookbook–thanks for the opportunity.

101 Jane November 6, 2009 at 2:20 pm

Oh what a lovely dinner party. Too much fun. I love PW’s Apple dumplings! Tried them and was amazed at using the mountain dew but boy were they Yummo!

I absolutely love her apple dumplings! Those are my fav. I also like her twice baked potatoes too. I would love to win the book, because I haven’t purchased my copy yet!

105 Tammy November 6, 2009 at 2:46 pm

Wow – what Pioneer Woman recipe isn’t fabulous?!? I think it’s probably a toss-up between the crash hot potatoes and the bread pudding, although I love her blackberry cobbler (no ice cream required version) too.

And I totally want her cookbook!!!

106 heather November 6, 2009 at 2:56 pm

I absolutely love her Chocolate Sheet Cake – it is my go-to dessert whenever we have guests. (My mother-in-law loves it so much that she just had me make it for her book club meeting – and all the ladies just raved about it!) I also love her recipe for Mexican Lasagna and the Marlboro Man’s Second Favorite Sandwich is one of my favorite things to make for a hearty lunch. There are just too many recipes to choose from, I love them all. Would love to own this cookbook!

111 Cheryl W November 6, 2009 at 4:01 pm

Wow, it is nearly impossible to pick one favorite so I am going to say “Hot Crash Potatoes”. They were the very first recipe of hers that I tried. It was a success and I was hooked from then on out.

112 Nicole F November 6, 2009 at 5:16 pm

I know everyone loves the crash hot potatoes, but I have to say that the ABSOLUTE best potato recipe is her TWICE BAKED POTATOES! They are amazing and deilicious and full of fat. And I, like you, have never been disappointed with any of her recipes. They are the best!

I am planning on buying a few copies for my dearest girlfriend, mom and MIL.

So many fun and yummy recipes I’ve tried since you first turned us on to this great site, it’s hard to pick a favorite. The ‘zucchini cakes’ were a real family hit when my garden overfload with tons of zucchini. I must have made them at least once a week for awhile and never got complaints….only requests for more. I have to make ‘The Marlboro Man’ ’cause I worked with the man who developed and founded that handsome guy (a long time ago when I was in advertising). So, in memory of him, I had to make it and have since repeated it many times, to everyone’s delight. And like everyone else, we all LOVE the ‘Crash Potatoes’, in fact, they are on the menu tonight along with the ‘onion strings’. Come on over……always love love love a party and the more the merrier!!!!

193 Sharyl November 12, 2009 at 8:06 am

I must say the Crash Potatoes hit the mark when it comes to me. My family and I love anything with the word ‘potato’ in it, and these are tasty, simple and can be dressed up or dressed down. ‘Simple elegance’ is what I am all about!

I can’t remember if I already commented, but I love, love, LOVE the Cauliflower Soup on her website. YUM!! And the kids love it too. Even better!

I’ve yet to try any of her recipes (though I frequent the homeschooling section on her site) so the recipe for Spicy Molasses cookies is going to be my first. How cool would it be to win her cookbook!
