Strawberries with Sour Cream sweetened with brown sugar is one of those food combinations that may surprise you but your are going to love! It is a delicious treat that is perfect for snacking or part of a brunch or breakfast.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe!
I am a big fan of brunch and today’s recipe is one of my favorite things to serve for a brunch.
This is one of those treats that you may raise your eye brows at when you first hear about it, you may even think you don’t like sour cream so you won’t like it. I don’t like sour cream by itself but I LOVE this combination. The sweetness of the brown sugar and the sour of the sour cream are a perfect combo. This is one of my favorite things to make when I have fresh strawberries out of the garden. I have found that smaller strawberries work the best because they tend to be sweeter but I’ll use whatever strawberries I can find.
Ingredients Needed
- Sour cream. I recommend using full fat sour cream, none of that no fat stuff. I also have substituted plain Greek yogurt for the sour cream.
- Brown sugar. Use fresh brown sugar so it is nice and soft, you don’t want any hard lumps in your brown sugar.
- Strawberries. I prefer smaller strawberries as they tend to be sweeter but I will use whatever I can get my hands on! With the larger strawberries you are also tempted to double dip!
Sour Cream Brown Sugar Dip
Method One:
I have made this two ways. The first way is that I mix the sour cream and the brown sugar together to make a creamy mixture. Then I just dip in my strawberries.
Method 2:
The other way is a little bit more fun but a little messier. The kids love this version. Serve the strawberries with a bowl of sour cream and a bowl of brown sugar. Dip your strawberry into the sour cream first and then into the brown sugar. Then just pop it in your mouth. The brown sugar will start to melt into the sour cream soon after dipping so don’t delay.
Tips from Leigh Anne
- No matter how you decide to serve it, it is delicious! If you mix sour cream and brown sugar together, you can also spoon the cream over the top of fruit that is too small for dipping such as blueberries and raspberries.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use dark brown sugar?
Yes, it will give you a richer flavor and is delicious. You can also use coconut sugar.
Can I use other fruit?
This brown sugar cream is delicious on any fruit such as peaches, nectarines, blackberries or other berries. For smaller fruit such as raspberries or blueberries, that would be difficult to dip, you will want to pour the cream over the top of the fruit
