As I shared yesterday I have some major sports fans living at my house. We all know that one of the biggest days of the year for those sports fans is coming up soon with “the Big Game.”
For this year’s “Big Game” I will be serving fresh, warm soft pretzels with a fun selection of dipping sauces along with a selection of vintage root beers purchased from Cost Plus World Market. Before we get to today’s recipe though I’ve got some fun “Big Game” day table ideas for you. One of the things several of you asked in my recent blog survey was for me to share with you where I purchase things I use in my table settings and party set ups. That one is easy. The majority of table props you see in a lot of my pictures come from Cost Plus World Market. Today’s table decor is no different.
For my “Big Game” day table I used a pretty new tablecloth. I thought the colors were rather “footballish!” I also used one of my chalkboards as a backdrop with a football play on it. O.K. so I had to Google “football plays” to know what to draw!
One tip for table decor I have shared before is to use white dishes. I love white dishes. They are so versatile and will work with any color scheme and World Market has a great selection of white dishes.
You also know how I love signage on my food tables so I might have squealed a bit when I found these cute little chalkboard signs at World Market.
The vintage rootbeer bottles were the perfect thing to hold the signs. I saved some of the root beer though for drinking at the party.
If you are not in the mood or don’t have time to make soft pretzels you can pick up a bag of these cute football shaped pretzels at World Market. They’ll work just fine especially when they are in a football shaped bowl!
The other thing I was quite excited about and that was perfect for holding the dipping sauces were these cute tasting trays. A separate compartment for each sauce so they don’t all mixed together! Love being able to keep my flavors separate!
In addition to table decor I also love to shop at World Market for specialty food items. They have an amazing selection of foods from around the world and it makes me feel like I have traveled to a foreign country when I shop there! I was able to find most of the ingredients I needed for my pretzel dipping sauces at World Market.
Pretzel Dipping Sauces
Dulce de Leche
I was so excited to find dulce de leche in the jar at World Market. I have not been able to find it anywhere in Portland and have had to make my own. Now I’ve got a quicker and easier alternative.
Another one that is almost as easy is the Chocolate Cream Dipping Sauce. I purchased a jar of Dark Chocolate Spread (it’s from Holland) and combined it with some whipped cream. I whipped a cup of cream and then added in 3 Tbsp of the chocolate spread. Easy and delicious! This one would also be delicious straight out of the jar but I liked the little lighter version you get with the whipped cream added.
You can’t have pretzel dipping sauces without a cheese sauce. For this one I purchased the Swiss cheese fondue from World Market and then spiced it up a bit with some dry mustard, garlic and hot sauce for a spicy cheese sauce
And finally there was a sweet mustard sauce. I used a dijon mustard combined with some garlic
