As I mentioned the other day Tessa and I recently hosted a birthday party for her sweet friend Katy Jo.
Katy Jo’s mother recently passed away so we wanted to be sure and make this birthday extra special for Katy Jo. I never met Katy Jo’s mother but I wanted to do for Katy Jo what I hoped someone would do for my daughter in this situation. Love her and celebrate her.
I think the biggest hit of the party was the popcorn bar. The kids were going to watch Katy Jo’s favorite movie (Little Rascals) out in the backyard on a projection screen so popcorn seemed a natural choice for a treat.
Well, of course I couldn’t just serve plain old popcorn.
We had buttery movie popcorn, cheddar cheese popcorn…
kettle corn, white cheddar popcorn and my favorite caramel corn. I purchased the kettle corn and white cheddar corn from Trader Joes and then bought microwave movie popcorn and cheddar cheese popcorn.
Of course we had to have candy to go with the popcorn. What would a movie be without popcorn and candy?!?!
And then to wash everything down there was root beer. Served out of a fun vintage Pepsi crate! I added a few white daises into the old, empty pepsi/coke bottles.
Katy Jo requested chocolate cake so I made her my BEST chocolate cake complete with a fun cake bunting!
If you are interested in a cake bunting of your own I have a few to sell so leave a comment or send me an email.
So see what other fun food we served at the party come back again!!

I absolutely LOVE the idea of a popcorn bar!! I can’t wait to try all the wonderful ideas I’ve received from you in the short time I’ve been following your blog

This is beyond precious! What a great idea! I love that cake, too cute!
What a gift your family provided for Katy Jo. I am with you…if something happened to me I would hope that someone stepped in and made my children have wonderful special days!
I love the idea of a popcorn bar!!! That is great and would work for girls or boys…super idea!!!!!!!
Love this idea! What a fun party.
So stinkin cute!!!
The party food looks fabulous. I really like the popcorn in the clear bowls and the tags for the different flavors. You are so creative Leigh Anne. We tried your chewy chocolate chip cookies which were fabulous. I just had to add an extra tablespoon or two of flour. Awhile ago we tried penne rustica and your peanut butter pie. Yum! Your recipes are delicious.
Thanks for sharing. What a kind thing to do for Katy Jo. As a mother of many, I know this would be one of the best things you could do if I were not here. Thanks for your creative ideas and your sensitivity to others.
What a pretty party, Leigh Anne!

I just found your blog. How sweet of you to host a party for her. I’m sure it meant the world to her. And the popcorn bar is such a great idea!
What a thoughtful gift for a beautiful little lady! Great ideas!
Such adorable party ideas! God bless you and Tessa for your thoughtfulness to Katy Jo at what must be a difficult time. Hugs!
LOVE this idea…and you guys were so sweet to host that party for her
would love to know where you got the pepsi crate, i have looked on Ebay they are not cheap! love the whole table set up. such a nice thing to do for a friend!
The pepsi crate actually belongs to a friend who got it from another friend’s garage! I love it and I want my own!
Ok, you have GOT to try cinnamon sugar popcorn and then I also have a recipe for colored popcorn (with food coloring) that has a kettle corn taste and any color you want…email me if you wanna dish
What a sweet post. I was so touched I got up and tried to find my home made caramel corn recipe which is super easy and uses 1/2 and 1/2 and cooks in the oven. Being the queen of disorganization, I couldn’t find it. I will keep looking and when I DO FIND IT, I will be back. I checked out your posted recipe and what I like about mine is you wouldn’t loose any topping in the bag. If you’re like me, topping is the best part.
I need either a secretary or a wife to help me organize.
Anyway, what a lovely story. When I read of thoughtful gestures, it fills me with joy and enriches me. Thank you.
Another great one LeeAnn, thanks for always sharing!
I was touched by this post. Such a thoughtful thing to do. Love the popcorn choices and the candy!! The pepsi crate idea was awesome…my favorite!! I loved how the daisies looked in the bottles behind the pop…so pretty! you rock!

Hi! I would love to know the colors and how much the cake bunting is? Super cute! I enjoy all your fun ideas!
Ok, I’m catching up on your blog by reading entries backwards. . . and I had already decided to have my nephews over next month when it gets cooler and have a s’mores bar since they love to cook over the fire . . . but now we’ll have to ALSO have a popcorn bar for when they move inside to watch movies and play video games later in the night . . . mmmmmmm!!! I’m actually looking forward to hosting six boys now!!!
Where did you get all the clear bowls? Do you have that many pyrex bowls or did you get them somewhere?
They are actually just plastic bowls from the Dollar Store.
