Why You’ll Love This Recipe

Salty and Savory. Especially during the holidays when all the treats seem to be sweet, this Chex Mix recipes a nice change.

Great Flavor. Thanks to all the butter and the seasoning mix this stuff has lots of great flavor. I use more butter than the original chex party mix recipe and it makes a difference!

Ingredients Needed

  • Chex Cereal, rice, corn and wheat
  • Pretzels
  • Cheez Its, you could also use bagel chips or another cheese cracker like Goldfish
  • Cheerios
  • Peanuts, I used cocktail peanuts
  • Worcestershire Sauce
  • Onion Powder
  • Garlic Powder
  • Seasoning Salt, I prefer the Lawry’s brand

How to Make Chex Mix

  • Preheat oven to 250 degrees F.
  • In a large bowl, combine cereals, pretzels, Cheez-its, peanuts. You could mix it directly in the dutch oven you are going to bake it in but I find it easier, and less spillage, to do it in a large mixing bowl and then put it into the dutch oven.

  • Keep Chex Mix stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks. No need to refrigerate.

Tips

  • If you don’t like wheat chex, leave them out and use more corn and or rice chex. You can customize the mix to your personal preference.
  • Switch up the nuts. Instead of peanuts, use cashews or a mixture of nuts. The original chex party mix recipe called for mixed nuts.
  • Instead of Cheez Its you can use a bagel chips, goldfish crackers or broken up melba toast.
  • To add a little kick to your mix, add in 2 Tbsp chili powder with other seasonings to make Spicy Chex Mix.
  • To make Ranch Chex Mix, leave out the Worcestershire sauce and seasonings and use a package of Ranch seasoning mix (dry) mixed in with the butter.

This recipe is not gluten free but you can make it so by only using rice and corn Chex Cereal, using gluten free pretzels and Cheerios and leave out the Cheez Its. Just make sure your Worcestershire sauce and seasonings are gluten free.
