Repeat Reads

by Leigh Anne on October 6, 2008

Several times this past week Tessa has disappeared.

This is where I usually find her…

ECLIPSE

…in her bed reading.

Like many other teenagers and adult woman she is in love with the story of Bella and Edward.

This is not the first time she has read Twilight.  No – it is the THIRD time!  Don’t worry – she has read the other 3 books in the series, too. She has read each of those books TWO times!

I remember falling in love with a book when I was her age.

I fell in love with the story of Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy.

I was first introduced to Pride and Prejudice in my British Writers class in high school.  I have lost tract of the number of times I have read Pride and Prejudice let alone the number of times I have watched the mini-series and movie!

Other than my scriptures there are only two books that are “Repeat Reads” for me.  Pride and Prejudice being one and the other being Gifts from the Sea, a book I read each year.

Do you have a favorite “Repeat Read” – a book that you read and re-read?  A book you never tire of?

I’d love to hear what it is.  Please let me know by leaving a comment below.

Don’t forget if you are reading this in an email update or rss reader to click through to the blog to leave your comment.  I look forward to hearing about your favorite “Repeat Reads”.

Jan Karon’s “Mitford” series, all of Diana Gabaldon’s “Outlander” series, Quaker Summer by Lisa Samson. And for classics, nothing can beat Little Women!!

I love Pride and Prejudice, also!

Haha — sadly, that Twilight series is one of MY re-reads.
I also enjoy re-reading Terry Goodkind’s Sword of Truth series…it’s fantasy (dragons and such) but it’s so well written.

A tree grows in Brooklyn
Little Women and all the sequels
I love the 1st Ladies Detective books especially since I can hear the accents so well, it makes me feel at home :)
Another one on your reading list: The Hiding Place-so inspiring
and yet another recent read and re-read was the Last Lecture :)
Lately I have been remembering books I read as a child that just transported me to another world but I can’t remember the titles, or they are no longer in print. It is so sad!

I love the Mitford series by Jan Karon also. But my most favorite to reread every year is the Little House on the Prairie series by Laura Ingalls Wilder. They are such wonderful books and I totally have a different perspective as an adult.

I love books! oh, I am suppose to pick just 1…. hmmm probably Night Magic by Charlotte Vale Allen (I was given an autographed copy as a gift…) or Much Ado about Nothing, (I’ve read it and seen various stage and movie version too many times to count), or Chasing God while Chasing the kids (I can’t remember who it is by, but I love this one… it lives next to my bed), I could go on forever… My love of books and literature is the only reason I majored in English in college… Maybe some day I’ll get to use my degree….

Gift From the Sea is definitely the one I’ve reread the most often. I have reread it every ten years in my birth month, I think since it was first published. (And I’m 76.)

Anne Lamott’s Bird by Bird is another, as I teach writing.

I’m also a Pride and Prejudice fan…I bought the BBC mini series and watched the entire 4 hours in one sitting..I was obsessed I suppose. I also love the movie and have watched it several times. Nothing compares to the book though…oh Jane Austen was an amazing writer!

My too is the Twilight series. I just started it again, for the 4th time.

One of my favorite authors is Kurt Vonnegut.
I found a new author Christopher Moore.
I have begun to read through his books. His books include characters such as vampires, soul keepers, and aliens. The books tend to have a dry, dark humor with a definte social message hidden in all the text. I love books with lots of symbolism and a push to think outside the box.

Right now I’m working my way through The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan for the second (and a half :P ) time. Great gripping fantasy books!
I also love anything by Orson Scott Card!
Another good repeat is Labyrinth by Kate Mosse.
When I was in high school I read the whole Work and the Glory series 6 times!!

JANE EYRE! !

My favorite re-read would probably be Pride and Prejudice although I love all Jane Austen (my youngest son’s middle name is Austen). I re-read my Bible all the way through every year, and I read mysteries voraciously, although few are re-reads. Usually only classics make my re-read list (I agree with many of the others – Jane Eyre and Little Women are also excellent re-reads). I will say, though, that I recently read Twilight out of curiosity (I am a counselor at a high school and so many students have bragged about the book I had to check it out); anyway, I was pleasantly surprised. I doubt that I will re-read it, but it was better than I expected. I think I was expecting more of an Interview with a Vampire (a book I never finished in the 80s) . . . this one is much better!!!

I also fell in love with Pride and Prejudice! I wanted to marry a Mr.Darcy but I fortunately ended up with a Bingley :)

I love anything penned by Jane Austin however the novels that have most influenced my adult life were written by Lucy Maud Montgomery! I always hope I can be the sort of “mummy” that Anne is to her children and the wonderful wife she is to her beloved doctor husband Gilbert. Especially since my very own Mr.Bingley just happens to be in medicine as well :) I strongly reccomend the entire series!
