We are on a countdown at our house – only 5 more days until the college kids come home. Tessa has been keeping track with a countdown on the message board!
I received a cute email from Cali the other day. She can’t wait to be home where she can sleep in her own bed, doesn’t have to lock her door, doesn’t have to wear shoes in the shower and gets to eat my food! I can’t wait either.
I have been busy getting the house ready (still need to dig out the boys room which I have taken over as a craft room), stocking the house with food and planning meals.
I have already shared with you our Thanksgiving Menu but I also wanted to share a fun Thanksgiving tradition we have – the Candy Corn Blessing.
At Thanksgiving dinner we place a small bag of candy corn at each person’s plate.
Before we eat we take turns going around the table having each person share something they are thankful for. We do it five times – each time they share they can eat one of their candy corn.
It is a nice way to really remember why we celebrate and to focus on what is truly important. I know three of things I will be thankful for this year – Logan, Clark and Cali are home!!

We have done this also for many years and it is a fun tradition. Some years we have put the candy corns in a bowl and passed around. . . .We encourage all to listen and not keep saying the same thing. Tonight I was in Fry’s and they had bags of candy pumpkins for 10 cents (instead of 1.29), so I bought all they had (123 bags) and changed the poem to say candy instead of candy corns. . . . . .I also had a $5.00 coupon for general groceries. . . .Thus all my neighbors and friends will get a bag tied up in a green ribbon with the poem taped on the front of the bag. THANKS for all your great ideas!

We have a tradition that we call the “Gratitude Turkey.” Every year we hang a paper turkey on our door and cut out a bunch of feathers. We put the feathers in a bag and every time we think of something we are thankful for, we write it on a feather and add it to the turkey. I have a picture of it here:

ohhhh… I LOVE this little idea. We also do the turkey and add the “I Am Grateful Feathers” to fill him up…but this year I didn’t do it and now I regret it. I need to get used to this empty nest feeling. I am not doing so well with it. We also do the little cookie turkey’s wiht the fudge stripe cookies and candy corn for the feathers.
