I am excited to announce that I will be holding some kid’s cooking classes this August! Just when that summer fun may be waning a bit and the kids are a little bored you can send them to my house!
Now that my nest is empty I need to fill it up with other people’s children!
I have four fun classes to offer. Each class is 2 hours long and they will leave with a box of homemade goodies made with their own two little hands as well as a little mini cookbook of the recipes we have worked with. Of course there will be lots of helpful instruction, tips and ideas along the way and even a few packaging tips and tricks.
The classes include:
Smart Cookie Class -You will learn baking tips as well as create some yummy and fun cookies that you can share with your family and friends. We will make a drop cookie, rolled cookie, shaped cookie and a bar cookie.
Cupcake Craze Class -Learn to make cupcakes and frosting from scratch. We’ll learn lots of fun decorating techniques too.
Fun with Breads -Learn how to work with yeast to create a delicious loaf of homemade bread. We’ll also learn to make pretzels like you buy at the mall.
Campfire Cooking – Learn to cook a complete meal over the campfire. We’ll use a dutch oven, foil and other techniques.
Each class is $25.00 and limited to 8 children each. Ages 6-12. (If you have older kids that are interested let me know and we can put a teenage class together)
Here’s the schedule:
Monday, August 1 – Fun with Bread at 10 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
Tuesday, August 2 -Smart Cookie Class at 10:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m.
Wednesday, August 3 – Cupcake Craze Class at 10:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m.
Thursday, August 4 – Campfire Cooking at 10:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m.
Just leave a comment below or send me an email if you are interested!

Campfire cooking? That would be so much fun!! Why can’t you live in my neck of the woods, my friend?

So disappointed that I don’t live anywhere near you. My 8 1/2 year old would LOVE that!

We are lucky we do live your neck in the woods. My daughter Olivia would love to be in your 10 am cupcake class.
How fun! I will pass this on to my friends! Out of the entire summer, we are only gone one time during the week – and of course it’s during your camp. The only one we may be here for is the last one. Darn it!!! I know Syd would LOVE the classes!!! Okay I’ll find the positive in this somewhere, right – like maybe you’ll get some many attendees you’ll have a second set of classes
.
Now I’m even more excited – I read the dates wrong – that is the week before we are out of town! We will be signing her up. I need to talk with Andy to see what time works best for our work schedules. He’s out of town, but I will be talking with him tonight. I just reviewed the classes with her and she’s sooo excited! And so am I. Off to ride my horse
I think you should do some adult cooking classes. Some of those classes sound fun and interesting to me.
So wish you lived in AZ!! My daughter would LOVE to take a class!!
Another reason that I wish we’d stayed in PDX! My youngest ones are developing their kitchen skills, and these classes would’ve been perfect for them.
Will you be video recording the classes and posting to the web? Would the recipes/techniques be available later?
Anne – will have to think on that and see if there is a way I can figure something out.
Wish my grandchildren lived closer and I’d pay for all of them to attend.
Oh, my…oh, to be young again. I looked at that schedule and found it daunting. The very idea of teaching a cooking class to a group of 6-12 year olds sounds like fun. I’m remembering being a leader of Campfire Girls and teaching a group one activity after another…but I needed a week to recuperate and regroup for the next week. The very idea of five days in one week !!! However, your parties show that you thrive on big things. You’ll have a blast, I’m sure. Stay cool!
So I have come up with a plan for you to move to St. George. I mean it is so close to your kids at college and although the climate is completely different then Oregon I think you empty nesters would really love the desert life. And if your husband golfs then he is in luck because my husband works at a golf course!!
Have fun- can’t wait to hear how the classes go.
St. George…mmm…think it’s a little hot for me after living in Oregon for so many years but would definitely be up for a visit!
Ha!! Well, my husband is from Seattle and I am from Tennessee so it is possible to change humid, wet, green people into red dirt desert people!!
Your course sounds amazing and please let me know if you do ever head down my way.
That would SO be worth traveling to Portland for!!! Wish we could make it; sounds SO fun.
you are amazing and this is why i know you will have no trouble with being an empty nester, you will give love to others!
sounds like a blast to me, wish i could help you!
If I had children (hopefully soon), I would send them to your kitchen for sure! If you would like some assistance during the camps, I would love to help. I also loved what someone suggested earlier about doing an adult camp or workshop. I would be there in a heartbeat!

Leigh Anne – what fun! I love this idea and may have to copy for my neck of the woods (in the midwest). Remember how I told you that we’ll be traveling to visit my in-laws in Portland in July/August? It’s that exact week! Maybe I’ll sign up a few of my older boys and that way I can meet you, too! I’ll let you know…

Would be so fun to have your boys in the class. I can’t wait to meet you in person!!
You’re amazing Leigh Anne! My boys would love to make cookies and cupcakes with you at 1:00!
Yes! Amanda will be 13 by then. I know some of her friends would be interested too! Young teenager camp?
I’ll take 13 year olds – which class are you interested in?
No, not the only week we are going to be gone all summer
My daughter would love to do this! If you happen to add another day another week we are so there!
The cooking classes sound wonderful-unfortunately we have camp that week. Any chance you’ll over the classes at a later date in August?!!
Thanks!
Katalin
Considering adding a cookie and cupcake class the next week – are you available those dates?
Yes! The whole week works and either class…for 2 kids (ages 8 and 6).
Leigh Anne, I have 2 little girls who would love to attend!

We would love the Cookies & Cupcakes

I think you’ve tapped into a great thing to fill your time. My 14 year old would love this but HS soccer starts next week from 10-11:30. Offering a varity of times during the summer in the future would be great.
There is a 1:00 class available and I am going to add a couple of teenager classes the next week at 1:00 p.m.
I agree, you are amazing: blogs, newsletters, book reviews, cook books, group presentations, fancy grad parties, self-improvement conferences, CM, supporting friends, colleagues and other bloggers, now kids cooking classes – and keep an organized house and look great at the same time! I hafta go take a nap!
Wish I lived closer to you – I have two boys that I could send your way. The oldest would love it! And the campfire cooking class sounds really fun!
can you come to AZ!!!
Would you make an exception for an almost 6-year-old (in September)? She loves to cook.
I would love to sign up my daughter for the Breads and Cupcakes classes for the morning session.
I love the idea and wanted my daughter and her friend to attend – nothing like getting the girls excited only to realize AFTER the fact that the classes are the week we are in Utah with family.
I hope you have great success and offer the classes again.
Have you considered a sewing class for kids? You have so many great skills that I would love to encourage my daughter in
Thanks for sharing your talents.

What a totally fun idea! Wish I lived close by. I’m a bit older than your upper age limit but that’s okay:-)LOL
I would like to sign up my two daughters for the afternoon classes forBread and Cupcakes.
I will look forward to hearing back from you if they are available.
Thanks!
I have two girls that would love the cupcake class either the 10 or 1 would work. Thanks!
I only have spots in the morning class – email me their names and ages. yourhomebasedmom@gmail.com
This is such a great idea and so fun for kids!
Hi Leigh Anne,
My 11 year old daughter would like to take the cupcake class, either time. Please let me know if there is still availability. Thanks so much!
