First of all I have to say THANK YOU! You girls (and a few guys) sure know how to make a girl feel good! It would almost be worth having a birthday every week (if I didn’t have to get older) to get comments like I did yesterday. I loved reading all your birthday greetings and the lessons learned that you shared. I have added many of them to my own personal list I keep.
I also want to thank you for joining me on my year long journey of Finding 50.
I woke up the morning of my 50th birthday to an amazing sunrise and I realized that despite the fact that I was now a half a century old that I had a lot to be grateful for and that life was full of a lot of pretty and amazing things. I was going to find the pretty in being 50. I think I found it and even though my official year of Finding 50 is over (and hopefully I can find 51) I will continue on a daily quest to recognize and appreciate the pretty things that are there for us, just waiting for us to recognize them and appreciate them. Some days and weeks were easier to find the pretty in but I always managed to find it.
I’m not sure what happened to my numbering system – it seems if I started on Day 1 I should end on Day 365 but somehow it ended up Day 369. For those of you who know me well – you won’t be surprised. I never was very good at math. I guess I just added a few extra days to the year!
I decided that all this week’s pictures were going to be pictures from my birthday on Friday – it was such a fun day full of good friends, family, yummy food and some of my favorite pretty things. I wanted to share them with you.
Enjoy and I hope you enjoy joining me on my journey of Finding Focus in 2011! It’s going to be a fun journey!
Day 365 – January 3
I started out my birthday with my good friend Marsha looking at one of my favorite things – books! Portland has one of the world’s largest bookstores, Powell’s. If you ever make it to Portland it is a definite stop. I asked on Facebook – “If you could only have one book (not including your scriptures) what would it be? I enjoyed reading the answers. I actually bought one of the books suggested with some of my birthday money. I’ll share it soon (I need to read it first!!)
Books are always pretty!
Day 366 – January 4
Next was a stop at Sur la Table, an amazing kitchen store. So many, many pretty things. Don’t these colorful kitchen tools just make you want to cook something!?
Day 367 – January 5
I fell in love. I have always dreamed of owning a piece of Le Creuset cookware and someday I will. Until then I will just dream. I think the new color fennel is quite lovely. Don’t you?
Day 368 – January 6
We then walked across the street to Anthropologie where there were so many pretty things to behold. I used part of the gift card my son gave me to buy a few new pretty bowls for my bowl collection. Guess what color I got? Green of course!
Day 369 – January 7
We then made a quick trip at Cargo to check out all the fun things from around the world. I am thinking one of these old architectural pieces needs to live at my house.
I had a fun and yummy lunch with some dear friends at Cafe Nell. After lunch Jim and I made a trip to Ikea to pick out his birthday present to me – new shelves for my craft room and then Jim, Tessa and I enjoyed an amazing dinner at Oba, a local restaurant. An episode of Larkrise to Candleford while I ate a piece of my favorite lemon poppyseed cake from Beaverton Bakery in bed ended a pretty amazing day.
Thanks to all of you who made it so extra special!! Thanks again for joining me on my journey of finding the pretty in being 50. I am sure I will still be sharing pretty pictures with you throughout the year, just not on such a regular basis.
