First of all, I want to start off by saying THANK YOU – thank you for all the sweet birthday comments yesterday and Facebook greetings. You made my day. It was a fun day and I managed to eat my way through it. Nothing better than enjoying your special day with good friends and good food!! Just remember, birthday calories don’t count.
Second, I want to tell you how much I absolutely LOVED reading about the Word of the Year that you selected. So many amazing words and amazing reasons why you chose your word. I also love that many of you shared that, like me, your word found you. Isn’t that fun how that works!! I wish I could make each one of you a Word of the Year pillow but I am excited to announce that one of you will get a handmade by me Word of the Year pillow! The winner of the giveaway is:
#164 Jennifer L says:
It reminds me to engage in life. To focus outward instead of inward, tune in to those around me and spend some time on things that bring me joy. (And it makes me think of Captain Jean Luc Picard ordering me to, “Engage” – I stop procrastinating and get moving!)
Email me Jennifer with your mailing info and I’ll get your pillow to you. I also sell my pillows in my etsy shop if anyone is interested in purchasing one with their Word of the Year on it!
I usually close the comments on a giveaway post when it is over but I love hearing your Word of the Year so will leave the comments open on this one so feel free to keep sharing them!
Third, thanks to everyone who filled out the blog survey. You were all so kind and generous with your comments!
I thought I’d share a few things I learned from the survey and I a few things I plan on doing as a result of your suggestions.
If you didn’t fill out the survey you still can or you can leave your suggestions or ideas in the comments on this post. I love hearing from you!
It was good to learn that you pretty much enjoy everything I have been sharing on the blog. Number one was the recipes. I wasn’t surprised by that but was glad to see that you pretty equally enjoy the posts on parties, crafts, home decor, family and personal. Portland was the lowest ranking which was no surprise as I know that is a more limited audience but several of you mentioned how, even though you don’t live in Portland, you enjoy learning about and seeing the city! Maybe someday you’ll come visit.
I also have a great list of blog post ideas thanks to your suggestions. The things you’d like to see more of:
quick and easy dinner ideas – totally on this one! Watch for lots of quick, easy and delicious dinner ideas coming up in the next few weeks.
gluten free recipes – my gluten free girl was home for the holidays so I have a couple of great new recipes to share with you that we tried.
breakfast and lunch ideas – this one is a little bit more of a challenge for me as I usually have a green smoothie for breakfast and lunch but breakfast is great for dinner too so I’ll work on it!
fashion tips/ideas – it’s been a while since I shared a fashion post but I’ve got a couple of ideas in the work so watch for one soon. I am thinking about a fashion post twice a month or so. Maybe I’ll get brave and share some “What I Wore” type posts.
more book suggestions and more often – this was probably the biggest request. You asked that I share what I am reading more frequently, not just my once a year list. I will start sharing my book list on a monthly basis and will also look forward to hearing from you what you have read the past month.
more home decor ideas – you asked for ideas that are not just holiday oriented as well as some furniture redo posts.
empty nester tips – I am now entering my second year of being an empty nester and have some good ideas and tips to share on the subject coming up!
photography tips and photo organization ideas – I am definitely not a professional photographer but am happy to share how I take my photos for the blog as well as how I keep my family photos organized and family history documented.
time management and balance tips -I have done some posts on this in the very beginning of my blog so will dig those out and refresh and repost.
home organizational tips and ideas – this one is not my strong suit. In fact when my son came home for the holidays and looked in my office(actually that would be my husband’s office) where I store all my “stuff” he accused me of being a hoarder. I assured him I wasn’t a hoarder because I actually used all of it, o.k., most of it!! I do have a few organizational tips up my sleeve and it is one of my goals to get better organized this year so I’ll share my journey with you now and then!
ask Leigh Anne -there were a few suggestions for this type of post – you ask me questions and I answer them. What do you think about this one?
printables – requests for more printables of quotes and thoughts I enjoy. Totally doable!
There were quite a few other miscellaneous requests which I have taken note of and will try to incorporate in the coming year. If you have a request that wasn’t covered in the above please leave me a comment and let me know.
As I said, you were so very kind in your comments. The main suggestion that you all made was some improvements to the recipe index which I totally agree with! It needs some improving and tweeking so it is easier to use and I will be working with my tech person to do that. As you can imagine going back through five years of posts can be quite time consuming so it will take some time but it’s one of my main goals for the blog this year – to make the recipe index more user friendly!
