YHM}Fashion Find

Today’s post is a new feature I am going to start adding to the blog now and then -YHM}Fashion Find.  YHM stands for Your Homebased Mom of course!  Since we are always in search of the pretty and delicious here on the blog I thought I’d start sharing a few of my pretty clothing or accessory finds.

You see, I have a confession to make.

I am a shopper.

To be more specific I am a clothes horse (do they still use that term.)  I love clothes.  I love everything about clothes.  I love fabric, color, detail etc.  I have worked since I was a junior high school mainly so I could buy clothes!

I’ve loved clothes since I was in the 4th grade and I decided to learn to sew so I could have MORE clothes!  It’s no wonder I raised a little fashionista! My love for clothing is why I spent four years in college studying fashion, design, construction, textiles, etc.

So I’ve decided to share my love for clothes and accessories with you once in a while.  So today is my first YHM}Fashion Find post!  Hope you enjoy it.

Several years ago, when I was in Texas at my niece’s wedding I bought this pair of shoes.

I bought these shoes because I loved everything about them.  I loved the color, I loved the buckle,  I loved the pointy toe.  Did I need a new pair of shoes?  No, but I needed these shoes.  Did I know what I was going to wear them with?  No, but I needed these shoes!  So I bought them and I have loved them and worn them to death.

I couldn’t believe how many things they went with.  The maroon color is really a neutral.  I always struggled with what color shoes to wear with navy – black or brown?  I now wear maroon (o.k. I don’t really like that name, maroon, any other suggestions???)

I have worn them so much, in fact, I have had to have the heel redone on them!  I wear them with jeans, with dresses, with everything.  The color looks great with navy, black, brown, gray and even with green!

So when I was in Target last week and saw this pair of shoes I knew I had to have them.

The Target tag said the color was red but I’m calling it maroon (unless we come up with a better name.)  I love the rounded toe, Mary Jane style which is so popular this fall.  The little embellishment on the side is so fun.  The best part?  They are super comfortable thanks to a well cushioned sole and a great heel height (two inches).  I wore them all day today and my feet felt great.  The other best part?  They were only $24.99!  They also come in black.

Yes, I know, I have small feet.  I usually wear a size 5 1/2 but these shoes only came in whole sizes so I went up to a six.  But because of the short, rounded toe box they will look good on any size foot!

Because I know someone is going to ask, no, I don’t wear socks or panty hose but I  do wear tights in the winter.

So if you are looking to add a new pair of shoes that go with just about everything into your wardrobe this Fall check out Target!

P.S. – the color in my photo is much truer than the on the Target website.

Both pairs are gorgeous but I especially love the shiny new ones from Target! And I agree about maroon. How about bordeaux? I like that better.

I am going to LOVE this new addition to your blog. We are soul sisters. Everything you said about you loving clothes from since a young age is SO me!!! And yes, I think someone could say I am a clothes horse too. ; D

Love the shoes. I think I would call them dark rose in color. But not sure. I just know they look great! Sure wish I had the legs to go without hose though. And I wished I had your talents to sew. I never did learn. ; ( Good for you!

Great find Leigh Anne! Looks like Target is doing a take off on one of my favorite brands–Sofft for a great price and including the ball of the foot cushioning. Burgundy is what I call it.

    Great shoes!!

As for color name, my immediate thought was bordeaux!! I see an earlier commenter had the same idea!! :)

Now I have to go shopping, too! I was going to say burgundy, but I do like bordeaux! May have to get them is black and bordeaux! I hope they will work with arch supports (problem feet as of late.) Thanks for the find!

    Leigh Anne,
How fun to learn one more aspect of your personality that you will share with us!
My Dad, who turned 90 last week, will be happy to learn that you consider maroon a color that goes with everything. He raised us as a single dad for several years and when I was a teenager he remarried. My stepmom still teases him that he had a wardrobe of maroon socks at the time because they went with everything!

Leigh Anne, You know you are going to see people all over town wearing “your shoes”! I love shoes as much as I love purses and I adore both pairs. I will definitlty visit Target today, especially if I can get away with wearing them to work.

P.S. I’ve noticed the trend at church to not wear nylons with dressy (and not so dressy) shoes and must admit I’ve even done it a few times during the summer. I do believe that to really look right I do need nylons, plus it helps my shoes to stay nice longer. I guess I’m old fashioned!
A few years ago a memo was read at church that suggested members needed to try to dress more appropriately for sunday and when some questioned what that meant, the answer was “footwear”.
Both pair of shoes you shared were beautifully dressy!

PhilBillPaul went and bought both pairs for me today. What a guy! Not sure I’m keeping both but they are super comfortable which is a requirement for me!

And we have half sizes here in Atlanta. :)

haha! I bought a pair of black ones today. They definitely ran small, I had to go up a half size. They did have half sizes though. No “bordeaux” in my size at Tanasborne.

so, I read your post while waiting for our dinner to come to the table. We’d just gone out AFTER a freezing cold Michigan State football game. I ran my husband home and raced to Target, fearing the worst. . .they’d be gone! There were only 3 pair of BORDEAUX left!!! Horrors! I quick bought a pair and raced home! Man you sure got a lot of traffic on this post girlie! Maybe you should write more clothing reviews AND maybe Target should hire YOU!!

Love, love, love these shoes (both pairs). And I wear a 5 1/2, too. Incidentally, have you noticed that they have stopped carrying our shoe size almost everywhere? I actually went to the children’s department in Macy’s this summer to find sandals that were small enough to fit!

  19. Laurie says

Thanks for the new feature. I love clothes too, but shoes are my weakness! Those are tooooooo cute! I’m off to find some in Bordeaux!
    Thanks so the great ideas!

Oh my goodness I bought those same shoes two weeks ago and I am in love with them! There is nothing like the thrill of finding a pair of shoes you love at a great price!

  21. Cindy says

I just bought the Target shoes in Burgundy. I only have black dress shoes, so this is a leap for me (very shocking, I know… I am 55 yrs old!). They looked so cute on you- I couldn’t resist trying them. Please post more on fashion. I am challenged in this area.

I love this new addition to your Blog! The local Targets were out of my size so I ordered some online and they have half sizes there. They also have a deal right now that if you order one pair at regular price, you can get another pair for 50% off. I’m worried now though that I should have gone up one half size. My fingers are crossed that they will fit! : ) Thanks Leigh Anne!

Loved the Target shoes. Bought both pair (the maroon and the black) for a precious daughter-in-law. She loved them. She could not get over how comfortable they were, plus the style was perfect. I was impressed with your find as the shoe had man-made materials, nice sturdy heel and a terrific non-slip soul. Worth much more money than what I paid. You are one terrific woman to share your knowledge. I am looking forward to what you bring us next on the fashion part of your blog. Your blog is very much welcomed into my home and I certainly am passing the word along about this beautiful woman who lives in Portland and her name is Leigh Anne.

  24. Deanna says

Goofed on a couple of things in my comment to you about the shoes: “man-made materials” which are better than what they used to be used back in my day in the 50’s and 60’s. Plus, I meant to say, “nice sturdy heel and a terrific non-slip SOLE” (not soul). Oh the joys of getting old!!!
