I am a big supporter and fan of women run homebased business.  Maybe it’s because I have had some type of homebased business for almost 25 years! I love to see a woman take a talent. gift or passion for something and discover a way to share it with others and contribute to her family income at the same time!  All while maintaining her first priority of family and being a mom. It’s even better when I can be a part of it.  When I can offer a few words of [Continue Reading…]

Gardening 101

woodland path

Fourteen years ago we built the house that we currently live in.  We moved from our small, one bathroom bungalow in the city to our 5 bedroom home in the suburbs.  With the birth of our fourth child – we had definitely outgrown that house! Not only did we buy a lot more house – we bought a lot more yard.  We went from a small city lot to a 17,000 square foot yard – or rather 17,000 square feet of clay dirt.  That’s all there was – dirt – there was [Continue Reading…]

Finding Focus – The 5 O’clock Club

Having been involved in direct sales for 17 years I have enjoyed reading about other woman who have been successful in the industry.  Of course, one of the icons of the direct sales industry is Mary Kay Ash of Mary Kay Cosmetics.  She is an amazing woman and I have enjoyed reading about and learning from her over the years. Years ago, at the beginning of my direct sales career I first read about Mary Kay’s Five O’clock Club in her book “Mary Kay – You Can Have it All”. [Continue Reading…]

Finding Focus – Part One, Now what was I doing?

Recently, I was diagnosed with A.A.A.D.D. -Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder. This is how it manifests: I decide to water my garden.   As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I look over at my car and decide it needs washing. As I start toward the garage,   I notice mail on the porch table that I brought up from the mail box earlier.   I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.  I lay my car keys on the table,  put the junk mail in the [Continue Reading…]

Stuck in a Rut

This past week  I was doing a little “cleaning out” of my files and came across a handout dated 1998.  It was from a presentation done by a fellow “side line” in my direct sales company, Linda Hill.  The presentation was entitled “Help! I’m in a Rut? How do I Get Out?” Usually about this time of year, the newness and enthusiasm for the “fresh start”  of a new year has worn off.   We may even find ourself “Stuck in a Rut”.   Using Linda’s “ruts”  I want to share some [Continue Reading…]

Declutter your Desk

Quick -What color is your desktop?  If you are like me you may have forgotten because you haven’t seen it for a while!   Part of it may be that during the holidays I tend to let things “pile up”, especially in my office.  In fact you can see from the picture what it usually looks like – not an inviting work environment! One of my goals for 2008 is to live a more “clutter free” life – and the first place I am starting is my desk!  In an article I recently read [Continue Reading…]

Catch Up Day

Have you ever felt like you just weren’t getting everything done?  Do you have too many projects that won’t fit into your weekly/daily schedule?  Too many loose ends – not enough time!  I feel that way quite often – especially with a homebased business when there are so many other distractions during your day.  Those “waiting to be done” piles/lists just keep getting higher and longer.  Those piles/lists can include things like getting that customer newsletter out, making needed phone calls, bookkeeping, bill paying and even things like sewing on a [Continue Reading…]

Taking Time for You!

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and enjoyed time with friends and family.  We loved having our two sweet college boys home – they are back at school and the house is empty of food but we loved every minute of it!   So – have you ever dreamed or fantasized about spending an entire day at home in your pajamas?  Lounging in bed, reading a good book, watching your favorite TV shows, taking care of no one but you?  Well, that dream came true for me over [Continue Reading…]

Maintaining Momentum

Last week I shared with you the story of becoming “Stuck in the Mud”.  I compared this to our direct sales business and how we can get “stuck in the mud” and lose momentum.  Getting started again can take a lot of time, effort and energy.  It is easier to keep the momentum going and not get stuck!   This week I want to talk about maintaining that momentum.   For many of us the fall selling season is our best and busiest time of the year.  It is important that we [Continue Reading…]
