Blackberry Cobbler

Blackberry Cobbler

It is still berry season in Oregon.  Blackberries are the latest berries to ripen along with the fall raspberries.  The blackberries grow wild along the roads, in the parks and even in people’s backyards.  In fact some people spend a lot of time and effort trying to get rid of the wild blackberries in their yard.  They can literally take over! There are dozens of blackberry bushes lining the road by my house.  But since I prefer my blackberries not be infused with car fumes I bought mine at the Farmer’s [Continue Reading...]

If you haven’t had a chance to enter the giveaway I have going on right now for a I-Pad Mini make sure you do! This recipe is an oldie but a goodie.  I first shared it back in June of 2008.  This one is so deserving of a pretty redo and I have given the recipe a little tweak. June is strawberry season here in Portland and this year the strawberry crop has been awesome.  Our own little strawberry patch in the garden has been producing like crazy and every [Continue Reading...]

Strawberry Pizza

strawberry pizza

We picked our first strawberries from the garden this last week.  There is nothing like a strawberry fresh out of the garden. I didn’t have to think long about what to make with the strawberries.  Traditionally one of our family’s favorite “first strawberries of the season” recipes is Strawberry Pizza,  a sure sign that strawberry season is here.   It is from my favorite cookbook – Portland Junior League Portland Palate. I never have trouble finding the recipe because it is the dirtiest page in the cookbook  – a true sign [Continue Reading...]

It’s fun to dig through the archives too and reacquaint you with them. Today’s recipe for Lemon Angel Pie has been a favorite of mine for over 25 years – it has definitely stood the test [Continue Reading...]

Chocolate Peppermint Ganache Cupcakes

ganache

When I was planning the menu for the bridal shower I hosted last week I knew there had to be at least one chocolate item on the menu.  How can you have a party for a bunch of women and not have chocolate? Since it is the holidays I thought it would be nice if it also had a holiday touch to it.  What says Christmas better than peppermint?   Chocolate and peppermint is a near perfect combination.  That’s why I keep a bag of Candy Cane Hershey Kisses stashed in [Continue Reading...]

Zucchini Cupcakes with Caramel Frosting

zucchini

Never say never. In my brown sugar cupcake post I told you that I had promised Cali there would be no more cupcakes this summer – well I lied!  I will admit, after all that wedding cupcake baking we did get a little burned out on cupcakes at our house. But when a friend shared her CSA box with us and it was full of zucchini and two of you shared the same zucchini cupcake recipe with me I knew I had to go back on my word. I also needed [Continue Reading...]
