Lime Sherbet Freeze

Lime Sherbet Freeze

Lime Sherbet Freeze is such a fun thing to make for St. Patrick’s Day.  It is a nice alternative to all the green mint treats out there right now! We are big ice cream fans at our house, always have been.  When I was young one of my favorite treats to get at the local drive, The Spot was a “freeze.”  I loved pulling up at the drive-in, having the server come out of her little booth and hook that tray onto our car window.  They made their own root beer [Continue Reading…]

Swedish Cream

Swedish cream with Raspberry Sauce

Today’s recipe is the perfect treat for your non chocolate lovers for Valentine’s Day or just about perfect for any day. I love chocolate as much as the next person but there are actually times when I will pick a non chocolate dessert over a chocolate one.  Can you believe it!?  If I do, there is usually some kind of fruit involved.  Chocolate seems to be the choice of the season with Valentine’s Day fast approaching but today I’d like to share with you a pretty and delicious dessert idea for [Continue Reading…]

Plum Cake

Plum Cake

A few weeks ago we were invited to  potluck birthday celebration for a dear friend.  This celebration was extra special because this friend has been fighting cancer and is winning! I know there are people who don’t care for potlucks but I’m not one of them.  I love a good potluck and I knew given the people that were invited to this party it would be a good one.  Some of my favorite cooks would be there. I took some homemade crescent rolls and some of those yummy garlic ginger green [Continue Reading…]

No Bake Banana Split Dessert

Banana Split Dessert

Today’s recipes is another one of those oldies but goodies.  I have had it in my recipe file for over 30 years and it originally belonged to my mother.  It is on a nice little type written 3 x 5 index card in my collection of recipes.  I remember spending hours on my typewriter typing out all my recipes!  Now all I have to do is log onto my blog. I served today’s recipe at a farewell dinner party for a sister missionary in our ward this past week.  Her [Continue Reading…]

Strawberry Sorbet

Strawberry SOrbet

It’s been a sweet treat week here on the blog. Strawberry season is still going strong around here so I’m taking advantage.  Usually one of the first things I make with the fresh Oregon strawberries is strawberry ice cream.  It is so yummy.  But this year my husband is on a diary free diet and ice cream is not dairy free.  But sorbet is!  So instead of fresh strawberry ice cream I made strawberry sorbet. I can’t tell you how delicious this is.  My husband thought he had died and [Continue Reading…]

Brown Sugar Strawberry Shortcake

Strawberry shortcake

When I asked on Facebook what I should make with all my strawberries the number one vote was for Strawberry Shortcake.  I think if you polled any group of people their favorite strawberry dessert would be hands down strawberry shortcake. I have eaten lots of strawberry shortcake in my day and the problem with it is you take a risk of getting a dried out shortcake.  A good shortcake can make or break a strawberry shortcake, no matter  how amazing the strawberries are.  If there is a dried out old [Continue Reading…]

Fresh Strawberry Milkshake

Fresh Strawberry Milkshake

We’ve got a bumper crop of strawberries this year in our garden.  More than we’ve ever had before and we’re loving it.  Just about every other day we’ve got a bowl full like this! So the other day I asked on Facebook for some suggestions on what to make with all my strawberries and you had some great ideas.  I decided to go with a fresh strawberry milkshake. Here in the NW we have a local burger franchise called Burgerville and every May/June they have fresh strawberry shakes that are [Continue Reading…]
