Strawberry Marshmallow Cake

Strawberry Marshmallow Cake

I love strawberries!  We have a strawberry patch in our backyard and I am lucky to live in the NW where we have yummy berries every summer.  Usually in the winter the strawberries are big, white and lack flavor but lately my local grocery store has had some beautiful red berries so I couldn’t resist.  What would Valentine’s Day be without strawberries! My first thoughts when it comes to strawberries always go to strawberry shortcake.  Today’s recipe is a strawberry shortcake like cake.  The cake is not as dense and dry [Continue Reading...]

Peppermint Ice Cream Dark Chocolate Cake Roll

Peppermint Ice Cream Roll

At our house cake can not be eaten without ice cream.  It is a rule! When  Pillsbury®  sent me some of their new holiday flavored products I was excited to try out the dark chocolate cake mix.  Peppermint is another one of their holiday favorites and one of my personal favorites too! Peppermint is the perfect companion to dark chocolate in my book!  I wait all year for peppermint ice cream to come out in the stores so I decided to make a peppermint ice cream dark chocolate cake roll. Apple Cake with Caramel Sauce

Today I have a Recipe Redo of the very first recipe I ever shared here on the blog back in November 2007.  I think the the very first dessert recipe definitely deserves a Recipe Redo and a little more attention, don’t you?! Do you have a favorite dessert that smells and tastes just fall?  I do and it’s this one. Grilled Brown Butter Pound Cake with Lemon Curd and Fresh Berries

Can I just say today’s recipe is pretty amazing. Several months ago we had dinner at a local Portland restaurant.  I don’t usually order dessert when we go out but this time I couldn’t resist.  One of the items on the menu was for grilled pound cake.  I was just too intrigued by the idea of grilling pound cake? Well, I am glad I tried it because it was pretty amazing.  Heating the cake on the grill gave it a nice little crisp coating that was so yummy. So of [Continue Reading...]

Key Lime Cake

For the few months before the Wedding Cake Buffet I did a lot of experimenting with cake recipes.   Believe me no one around here was complaining. I put a lot of time and effort into the cake menu and making sure the flavors were balanced and well represented. I knew that I wanted to have a California Orange Cake, a recipe I shared several years ago.  I think it is my all time favorite cake!!  I also knew I had to have the Best Chocolate Cake  and the bride’s father [Continue Reading...]

Wedding Cake Buffet

I have been so excited to share this post with you. This event was so fun to do and I love the way it turned out but I wanted to wait until I had shared all of my Europe trip with you.  Just too many fun things happening around here. The weekend after we returned from Europe we hosted a wedding open house at our home for a young man that my husband has mentored for the last 15 years or so. James was married in Florida in April and [Continue Reading...]

Victoria Sponge Cake

I am a big watcher of British TV and over the years I have heard references to Victoria Sponge Cake, especially during all those tea time scenes that come with British TV.  A slice of Victoria Sponge just seems to go with tea!  So while I was in England I actually had my first and my second piece of Victoria Sponge Cake.  I enjoyed a slice in Canterbury and then at tea with my girls in London. The cake has been around a long time and is called such because [Continue Reading...]
