Jerrick has been making these for a while, but just tried a new variety by dipping them in melted Andes Mint Chocolates. I don’t go crazy over the regular oreo balls, but the minty version is so yummy it ought to be a sin! BTW, I found your blog on a google search and then realized “Hey, I know Leigh Anne!” Hope all is well.

Well, I think I must have done something wrong . . . but this recipe is so easy that it should have been impossible to make a mistake! They were too sweet for us – even for our grandkids, who are lovers of anything Oreo.
Maybe I made them too big? Oh dear! Did anyone else have this experience?

I have never frozen them but think they should be fine. You can freeze cheesecake so think these would be the same. Here’s the large quanity recipe – have fun!
Oreo Truffles

120 Oreos (14 per package in Costco pack)
32 oz. cream cheese, softened

Crush about 25 Oreos in food processor to fine crumbs. Set aside for rolling. Crush remaining cookies. Add cream cheese. Mix until well blended. Roll into small balls ~1” in diameter. Roll in reserved cookie crumbs. Refrigerate. This should make 150-200 truffles, depending on the size. The goal is have them be bite-size. All measurements are approximate, depending on how much cream cheese vs. oreo flavor you like. You can also dip them in white or dark chocolate instead of rolling them in crumbs.

Hi, Leigh Anne–

Two quick questions…my sister has requested I make these for her daughter’s wedding (yes, they are a hit in our family!), so I am making about 200. When you made your large batch, how many packages of oreos and cream cheese were you able to mix at once? Also, have you ever tried freezing these, and if so, was it a success? Thank you so much!

I used my smalled Pampered Chef scoop and only got 37 dirt balls. Your scoop must be really tiny.

I made these and they were delicious and a big hit. I used double stuffed oreos. I don’t know if that makes a difference or not. Now, whenever I go to the store I make sure to pick up some oreos and cream cheese so I have the ingredients on hand whenever I crave the yummyness of this tasty dessert. Todd and Everson both loved them. Everson wouldn’t stop asking for more!

It’s so funny you call them dirt balls, that’s what my husband call them too.

My SIL Rachel made these with peppermint oreos and they were fantastic! I had to get away fast so I wouldn’t eat all of them.

Wow, I’ve never heard of these, but they look to-die-for! I just perfected a gluten-free version of oreo cookies, and have a few still in my freezer. I might have to give this recipe a whirl! Thanks for posting it!

I saw a super fun recipe in this months Ladies Home Journal. It’s for “Passion Pops” I’ll email you the picture of them. You melt caramel squares (or the little bits they make now) And scoop small dollops of the caramel in between 2 Nilla Waffers. Stick a sucker stick in the caramel. After it has set up some you dip the whole thing into melted chocolate. Decorate with Valentine sprinkles.
