Style by Karen

I don’t know about you but just about every January I get that bug – that redo, revamp, reorganizational bug and I always seem to start with my closet!  I’m usually pretty tired of my clothes about this time of year and feeling like I need a little redo myself!   Ever feel like that?

Well, lucky for me my friend Karen, a personal stylist, was there to help out!  A personal stylist is someone who helps you look your best.

Karen spends time listening to you and getting to know you, your lifestyle and the various roles you play. (This didn’t take long for us because we’ve known each other for years.)  Next, Karen spent one on one time with me talking about my body type and shape and how I can emphasis my assets and hide my defects.  She helps you discover what looks best on your body just the way it is.  She can even help you figure out what colors look best on you.

After helping me learn my style we moved onto the closet, yes the dreaded closet!!  I must admit I spent a little time the day before she came over cleaning it up a bit!!

Karen doesn’t expect you to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe, in fact her main goal is to help you learn how to shop your closet.  This is the part I loved.  She went through my closet with me and we focused in on some of the things I never wear.  Usually the reason was that I didn’t know what to wear with it.  Karen helped me shop my own closet by coming up with some fun new ways to combine clothes I already had.  Karen teaches that you don’t need to get rid of everything in your closet and you don’t have to spend a fortune to look good.   I had a whole new wardrobe without going shopping!  My husband loved that part!!

Karen recently did a great article where she shows you exactly how to mix and match the clothes you already have in your closet.  Check it out here.  If you tend to wear the same outfits in the same order Karen has some great tips and ideas for you.

Karen helps you learn your style, shop your closet and love your look!  Be sure and check out her blog Style by Karen  for more great fashion ideas and tips.

Now for the best part!  Karen is sponsoring a giveaway here on the blog. Karen is offering a free 3 hour personal consultation. She will assess clothing needs, determine personal style, analyze body type/colors, and Karen will make suggestions for closet organization. She will work with a long distance winner via phone calls, photos and possibly skype. Also included: Style guide and closet tabs.   This is an amazing value!

Just leave a comment below and you will be entered in the drawing.  Giveaway closes Friday, January 29th at midnight PST.

Meet my friend Karen:

I have been a Washingtonian all but 10 years of my life. I was raised in Lynden, WA, a small farming community in the NW corner, just a few miles from the Canadian border. After attending college in Michigan, I landed my first job in Denver, Co where I lived for 6 years and met my husband, Mike. His job in the lumber industry brought us back to the NW and in 1989 we settled in Vancouver WA, which is in the very SW corner of the state. Nestled in between Seattle and Portland OR, we love the small city feel which has been perfect for raising our two boys Ethan and Collin who are now 17 and 14. My previous career as a school teacher and home business owner has paved the way for beginning a new business in 2008. As a personal stylist I enjoy using my creativity in a whole new way. I love teaching women how to look, feel and dress their best.

Since having my daughter I feel like I lost my sense of style a little bit. I am having baby #2 in a few months and my maternity wardrobe is pretty pathetic. I just don’t know how to pull a look together without feeling huge! I would love to work with Karen. :)

I am in such dire straits. My clothes are all (a) outdated, (b) B-O-R-I-N-G, (c)shrunk/stretched out/worn out, or (d) all of the above!!! Besides all of that, I think I truly do not know how to dress for my body type. I see people everywhere who look more put-together than I am, and I wonder, “Why can’t I look that good?!”

Wow, what I wouldn’t do for a closet makeover, if been on a diet for the past 6mos and need to go through my closet and get rid of clothes that don’t fit and maybe wear some that have been hanging in the back for so long. What a wonderful reward for the next twenty pounds I hope to lose… have already lost 50, so am on my way.

I have 2 kids under the age of 3. Since I stay home with them, my wardrobe has devolved into nothing but old jeans and casual shirts. Please help me be comfortable enough to chase my kids and sophisticated enough to feel like a woman!

At 67, I can say that my body has truly changed its shape since the days when I last did some real shopping. Heading off to a local clothes closet charity with a trunk full of clothes is cathartic, but my closet still holds things I bought 20 years ago that will never fit again 8-( I’m finished raising 4 sons (43 – 28). Time to toss the sweats/jeans/Boy Scout classroom aid wardrobe and change it up a bit! Limited funds! HELP ME PLEASE!

I would love the help. I love to shop sales at my favorite store, Macy’s. The clothes look great at the store but when I bring them home they’re not so great! I don’t know what happens on my way home from the mall. Maybe I just have too many clothes to choose from. I don’t know what my problem is. I stand in front of my clothes and say I don’t have anything to wear! Karen would have a field day in my closet. I could use the help PLEASE! :-)

I need the help deperately. I’ve recently lost 60 pounds and gave away practically my whole closet to Goodwill, some stuff still the the tags on because I never could wear it! I never know what looks good and I’m still not sure I see myself correctly. I went from a size 20 to a 10 but still see myself large so I don’t pick the right clothes. Couple that with the fact I’m kinda cheap and I have clothes I bought because they were a good deal that I don’t even know if they look good (hence the tag issue). HELP! And Im right out of Salem, a quick trip LOL I’ve also been a stay at home mom for 24 years and tired of the too casual look. I’m now a Health Coach for TSFL that helped me lose weight and I want to look good to also show others my weight loss.
