Whether you need extra space in your oven or just a little more turkey to serve your guests, a slow cooker turkey breast is the perfect answer to both! It’s flavorful and easy.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
This Slow Cooker Turkey Breast f You are short on oven space Turkey day is almost here! There are always a couple of issues when it comes to cooking a turkey. For those of us not lucky enough to have two ovens in their kitchen, oven space is a big problem. I do have a separate roaster oven that I often use for my turkey. But if you don’t have a roaster oven, I have another option for you today. Slow Cooker Turkey Breast.
Obviously you won’t be able to fit a full size turkey in your slow cooker, but for those of you with a reduced sized family a turkey breast may be just the right size. That’s the second issues I have with turkey. A whole turkey makes for a lot of leftovers if you don’t have a lot of people! We all love leftover turkey, but I don’t like having to eat it for two weeks afterwards. That makes the slow cooker turkey breast the perfect option.
But a turkey breast isn’t just an option for small gatherings. This also works well if you are hosting an extra large group. The turkey breast provides some extra white meat to help fill your platter. Because not having any leftover turkey isn’t good either!
How to Cook a Turkey Breast in a Crock Pot
To make a turkey breast in a crock pot, first make sure that you get the right size turkey breast. I bought a large turkey breast that was almost too big to fit in my slow cooker! You want to have enough room to place carrots, celery, and onions under the turkey breast. Since my turkey breast was so big, I placed the them around the sides of the turkey instead of on the bottom.
The turkey will create a lot of broth, so you only need a little liquid. I added 1/4 C water to get things started. And for the seasoning, I used one package of Lipton Onion Soup Mix and a couple of teaspoons of butter. I loosened the skin of the turkey and rubbed half of the dry mix under the skin and then sprinkled the rest on top.
That is all you have to do. You turn on your slow cooker and forget about it until you are ready to eat. The results will be moist and delicious white meat. No worrying about overcooking and drying out your turkey in the oven.
So if you are short on oven space, are having a small gathering, or need some extra turkey to feed a large crowd, a slow cooker turkey breast may just be perfect for your holiday.
