Leigh Anne, this recipe is nearly identical to one my mom used when I was growing up. She would top them with chocolate chips, nuts, crystal sprinkles or toasted coconut. When I was about 8 the local newspaper came to our home and took pictures of us baking these cookies for an article they were doing on cookie jars. They will always remind me of my childhood.

Leigh Anne, I feel validated. I was laughing at this post that you did on sugar cookies. I swear by the one that I use and I was shocked to see that PW and I have the same one!!! {hers has one more egg} I just did a post on my blog about these sugar cookies a couple days before you posted this. I have gotten some flack from friends who have given me their recipes for "the best sugar cookies" and after making them I always go back to these. They are my husbands FAVORITE cookies. especially when I top them with cream cheese frosting.
thought that you would find it funny too. here is the link to my post.

ps I have never needed to refridgerate these. I think that they work just fine without. great tip on frosting every other one and stacking them. these do not even need frosting to be yummy.

I used your cookie glaze to pipe a happy birthday message on a cookie ice cream sandwich "cake" for Husband's early b-day surprise party this weekend. It hardened, as promised, and worked well! Thanks.

These look SO great! I love sugar cookies, but don't always have the patience for rolling, cutting and decorating. I will be trying this recipe!
