Note: This post is mainly for my Provo, Utah Valley friends and readers but you may all enjoy taking a look at all the good eating I did this weekend!
I was lucky enough to spend a long weekend this past week with these three pretty amazing people! Thanks to Wynn and Emily for letting me stay with them.
I miss those faces so much!! I flew to Provo so that I could attend Cali’s dance performance. She was in the Faculty Choreography Show.
My kids love it when mom comes to town (don’t you kids!?) My suitcase is usually full of treats for them – this time it was Girl Scout cookies, some favorite things from Trader Joes and their tax forms to sign!! This also allows me to fill my suitcase with treats from Tai Pan on the way home!!
There is also a lot of good eating that goes along with my visits!
This trip started out with my regular trip to Cafe Rio. Logan picked me up Thursday evening and we stopped for dinner.
Friday brought lunch at Magleby’s Fresh – another favorite spot we hit every trip. Breakfast at Magleby’s is a favorite too because they have that amazing buttermilk syrup. For lunch I had a wonderful BBQ chicken salad that came with one of their yummy rolls that I love to make at home.
For dinner we tried a new restaurant called Rooster. If you live in Provo or Utah Valley area I recommend you give it a try. Rooster is located at 163 N. University in Provo. It is a dumpling and noodle bar with Thai and Asian Fusion flavor.
I loved the feel of the restaurant and the taste of it too!
A beautiful large, communal type table runs along one side of the wall with fun Asian graphic prints
The art work invites you to sit, enjoy and share!
The dumplings were yummy! So yummy, we had to order more after we finished the first round!
Of course when you go out to dinner with college students there is always a bit of this going on!
My next new discovery in Provo was the Cocoa Bean Cupcake Cafe located at 774 N. University in Brigham’s Landing. If you live in or near Rexburg,Idaho there is one there too.
You know I can never pass up a cupcake!
Their selection changes daily. They serve a large, beautiful, yummy cupcake as well as a mean cup of cocoa. I personally gave the red velvet with a big, beautiful chocolate dipped strawberry on top a try!
Chocolate and marshmellow – yum!
I made another amazing dessert discovery while in Provo. Unfortunately I don’t have photos of this one as sometimes my kids get a little tired of me constantly pulling out my camera to take pictures of food.
If you are looking for a fun, quaint, cozy and yummy place for dessert in Provo be sure and visit The Chocolate. Located in an old, brick pioneer home The Chocolate knows how to bake a cake!
I couldn’t find a website for them to give you an address but they are located on State Street on the left hand side going out towards Orem, just past the mall!
I shared a slice of an amazing vanilla cake that used Madacasgar Vanilla with Cali- so good. My boys had a “cazookie,” a large, warm chocolate chip cookie with vanilla ice cream. A perfect place to go after a movie or other event to enjoy something sweet!
Now, the main reason for my trip to Provo, besides the opportunity to explore and enjoy lots of new tastes was to see this pretty girl in her dance performance. She was beautiful and graceful and so fun to watch! Love you Cali!!
If you live in or around the Provo/Salt Lake area and have some great places to explore please let me know so I can check them out on my next trip there!

Oh, I love The Chocolate. I drive past it at least once a day if not more. It is all I can do not to stop every time. Luckily it is closed when I take the kids to school. It is in Orem, not Provo which is why you probably couldn’t find the website. They opened the Orem store right after I started my diet, ugh! The Turtle Brownie is my favorite. Their website is http://www.thechocolatedc.com/
I DID enjoy peeking in on your trip to Provo! You always find the BEST food places! Congrats to Cali on her dance performance–I’m sure it was beautiful and will be a treasured memory!
Any excuse to visit your kids…but for sure a dance performance rates! Congratulations to Cali! All the better because you were there to share it with her.
We live in St. George and I was just telling my husband that we needed to go to Salt Lake just to eat at a yummy place called, Biaggi’s. They have the best bread with a specialty oil dip-. And there is a cheese ravioli that is so yummy!! We don’t make it up there very often (twice in the 7 years we have lived here) but I will put your picks on my list for our next trip.
I love hearing about new places to eat in Provo. I haven’t tried any of these places and didn’t even know about the cupcake cafe! Thanks for adding to my list of places to try!!
Boy, it sure is fun to see Provo through your eyes!
I was born and raised in Provo, so I think it seems same ol’ -same ol’ to me.
I just love seeing your pics of the trips you take out and about where you live!
I guess it’s a classic case of ‘the grass is always greener….” : )
Thanks for sharing all your fun with us.
Leigh Anne, with all of the great places you eat at frequently, how do you stay so thin!?! You must have a great metabolism! I never really had a problem until I hit 50, now I have to watch what I eat. My metabolism hit rock bottom!
Did you get anything good at Tai Pan? I’m ready for another trip there myself!
Linda,
I have always had a high metabolism (resting heart rate about 80-90) but I have definitely noticed a difference the last few years. I recently went on a low glycemic 5 day reset to try to lose a few of the pounds I put on since blogging and curb my sugar cravings and it has really helped!! I lost 4 lbs. and my sugar cravings have greatly diminished. I didn’t do so well over the weekend though!!
The Rooster and that cupcake place were both on my radar big time, but now I have another one to add for my next trip to Provo! Thanks for the heads up!
Hurray for your sharing of food places!! My husband wants to go to a “ramen” place (he watches japanese cartoons and always wants to eat like them) for his birthday (next week) and now we’re going to go to Rooster!!
Of course today is my birthday, so I’ve got to decide if I want to go to The Cocoa Bean or The Chocolate!! We drove past The Chocolate on the way out to lunch and I was wondering if it would be good. Now I know.
For a quick lunch out with my college kids we like Guru’s on 45 East Center in Provo. The food can best be described at eclectic, healthy, fresh Mexican and Thai. There is a steak and blue cheese tostada that is to die for. The fresh lemonade and limeade is great too.
Hello all, there’s great some amazing pictures of The Chocolate posted on http://www.facebook.com/thechoco taken by some local photographers. Also, there’s some good photos of different desserts on http://www.thechocolatedc.com .
Glad you found some great places!
I loved reading about and looking at your Utah eating adventures! Everything looks so yummy!
I love checking out your blog. My little family and I just moved away from Provo area right after christmas after living there for 7 years while my husband attended BYU. We miss it and is was so fun to see pictures!! I love your recipe you share as well.
Oh and our favorite place to eat in Provo is the Bombay house right on University Ave past campus. It is Indian food and we love it so much I can still taste it!!!
Argh! I’m still going to be on my diet when we go to Utah this month! Dang! Dang! Dang it!
What a fun trip you had visiting your kiddos in Utah. Those cupcakes look
soooo good. I’d like some now for breakfast!
I forgot to say to Cali that I think it’s great she’s in dance and doing performances. Something she will always remember….and her family too!
Good going Cali!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stick with it!
The Cocoa Bean has a blog. The address is: http://www.thecocoabeancupcakecafe.blogspot.com/ It is F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S! You should try their hot chocolate sometime. YUM!!!
