Not Sleepless in Seattle

Jim and I just arrived home from a fun weekend getaway in Seattle.  Thanks to the Heavenly Beds at the Westin I wasn’t sleepless in Seattle!

I love Seattle and the weather was perfect.

But I think I should definitely be nominated for Wife of the Year Award  - let me explain.

Before I do though, for those of you who don’t know me as well - I am NOT a sports fan.  I don’t like to play sports and I don’t like to watch sports.  Despite my dislike of sports I am married to a man who LOVES sports - and I mean LOVES!!  So….

Last Saturday Jim, I and the Road Trip Girls all attended the BYU football game while in Provo.  I have to admit, if I have to attend a sporting event, a BYU football game is my first pick.  I have a sentimental attachment to BYU football as Jim and I had our first date at a BYU football game.

BYU football

Despite the fact that we roasted on the metal bleachers in 95 degree heat we had a good time and the Cougars won!

Well, luck would have it that the Cougars were playing the University of Washington Huskie’s this past weekend so off to Seattle we went.  At least it was another opportunity to wear that BYU t-shirt I bought while in Provo!

I thought Jim was pushing it - two football games in 7 days.  The Cougars won again!

And then he informed me that the Friday night before the football game the Seattle Mariner’s were playing at home - he loves the Mariners!  The best part - they were playing the NY Yankees.  Who could pass up a NY Yankee’s game!!  Not my husband.   At least Safeco Field has good food….

The Mariner’s won!

So yes - I have now fulfilled my yearly quota of sporting events - three in one week!!

Being the good husband that he is, he told me that the rest of the time we were in Seattle I could do whatever I wanted!

One of my first stops was Pike Street Market - I love to wander, look and enjoy all the sites, the people, the vegetables and of course the flowers!

Then we went to another of my favorite Seattle stops - the Glassybaby Shop

 Aren’t the colors amazing!

I want one of each.

I picked out Jade to add to my green collection.

We’re back home now and trying to get back into the fall/back to school groove.  I’ve been working on my  Meal Planning presentation I am doing at church this week.  A big thank you to all of you who have left such great suggestions and ideas in your comments!

I’ll share what I come up with next week!

So - what do you think?  Wife of the Year?

For sure, but I am not sure that you had to attend sporting events to win the award. You and Jim are such great examples to the rest of us and if you ever question that just ask your children and they confirm ALL that we see. I love your family!!

To be a contender for “Wife of the Year” your mother-in-law must attend the sporting events with the two of you! Was she there? Oh, did she take the pictures? ;)

Don’t despair, you are in contention for “Mother of the Year” without a doubt!

Football ::shudder:: I like to watch the halftime stuff more than the game. My husband is a die-hard NASCAR fan. Ugh!!! 500 miles making left turns. I mean, really!!

Give me shopping in an open air market anyday!

What fun - both the sports (I have to admit I am a football fan) and the browsing around Seattle. I love Pike Street Market…all the fresh fruit and flowers. So fun!

Wanna know how stalker-ish I am? I totally kept my eyes out for you, and it’s funny we didn’t run into each other (well maybe we did and since I don’t “know” you I didn’t notice, lol) because we were in ALL the same places! We were in the BYU section at the football game though. GO COUGS!

I just returned from a marriage retreat and one of the points from the Chaplain I learned was by doing things that we might not necessarily enjoy but, our spouses enjoy, shows them how much we value them.

It’s another way to show our love for our spouse.

I completely understand how you feel about sports. ;)

You know that’s LOVE ;)

You get my vote for “Wife/Mother/Sister/Friend” of the year with or without the sporting events. What a dear you are to go with Jim to something he loves so much–sorry those SPORTING GENES are very prominent in the Wilkes family. . . .Thanks for all the gorgeous pictures and keeping us informed. Like I say all the time, “YOU ARE AMAZING AND I’M GRATEFUL TO HAVE YOU FOR A SISTER!”

Welcome

My number one priority
has been and will always be
my family.
But I also feel strongly
that it is possible
for women to incorporate
all their interests,
goals and ambitions
into a balanced life.
I love working with women and helping to inspire them to achieve their goals and dreams while still maintaining motherhood and family as
their number one priority.
