February Contest - How do you like your chocolate?

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

February is the month of love and chocolate.  So how do you like your chocolate?

I prefer my chocolate in either the white or milk chocolate version.  I am  not a dark chocolate fan and don’t like intense chocolate.  In fact I prefer it in combination with something else - my favorite combinations are white chocolate and raspberry (I’ve got a great recipe for this combination for you tomorrow!).  Other favorite combinations include chocolate with any of the following - caramel, marshmallow, peanut butter, strawberries or smothered over the top of ice cream.  I don’t like my chocolate with nuts, raisins, coconut or orange.  One of my favorite ways to get my daily chocolate fix is to keep an open bag of chocolate chips (milk or white) in the door of the freezer - anytime I need that little chocolate fix my stash is ready!

Oh how I love chocolate, I too prefer the milk chocolate variety…just plain melt in your mouth chocolate. YUM!!

I like my chocolate dark, but not intensely dark. If it’s covering pretzels, even better! :o) I do love the little Hershey Special Darks, but dark chocolate from a little local chocolatier is even better. Happy Valentine’s Day!

Chocolate? Did you say chocolate? Yep, milk chocolate for me too ;> and I like it plain or with fruit flavorings or with coffee or with……LOL.

Carolyn - I forgot how much I love chocolate covered pretzels - add that to my list too!

You and Jacky are kindred spirits! Her favorite treat of the day is to find an open bag of milk chocolate chips in the freezer. We have to get her her own bowl or she would eat the whole bag! She loves it all.

The deeper and darker the better… almost! I have had some chocolate that is too bitter even for me! I love the silky buttery smoothness from dark chocolate. A friend gave us some Gutiard semi-sweet chocolate chips that are yummy just out of the bag! Moonstruck is so avant-garde! Fun!

Dark, Milk, White…I love it all. On pretzels or with caramel are my favorites. I love it with nuts and buttercream too! I’m not a fan of chocolate covered fruit unless it is made just before we eat it. A woman I worked with always kept chocolate chips in her desk drawer…we became good friends!

I’ll take my chocolate almost any way, but love it on English Toffee, which I make as gifts at Christmastime…and manage to pilfer enough samples to satisfy my chocolate-tooth. Valentine’s Day - I expect my dh will bring home truffles rolled in cocoa as a special treat.

I went to college in Portland back in the day…way before Moonstruck struck.

Happy Valentines’ Day!

Joan

I am not a big fan of chocolate all by itself. I like chocolate with nuts (especially Sees Candy), or with coconut and nuts (love Almond Joys), also like nuts and chews type stuff - so I love snickers candy bars. And then I love chocolate in various desert forms - cheesecake, chocolate cake, brownies, cookies, etc. I don’t mix chocolate with fruits to much - so I’m not big into stuff like chocolate and raspberry.

Chocolate covered pretzels are fabulous! And the toffee sounds yummy as well!

I cannot resist chocolate (preferrably milk chocolate) with peanut butter! I have been known to raid the choclate chips bag in a dire emergency!

MMMMMMMMM… everyone’s posts are so yummy so far! I like both milk and dark. My favorite (and easy to make) chocolate treat is Rocky Road… melt some Ghirardelli dipping chocolate, mix in marshmallows and chopped walnuts (or your favorite kind of nuts), and let harden in the fridge! Makes me want to go make some right NOW! Peanut M&M’s and Reisens are my favorite store-bought varieties.

I love Rolos - they are chocolate covered caramels that are bit size. I used to get them all the time when I went to the movies. They just melt in your mouth. They are soft and delicious. On the last episode of “The Biggest Loser” they had a temptation where they put 100 Rolos in front of each contestant. The person who ate the most rolos in 3 minutes won the prize. I would have been in heaven competing in that challenge. Thanks for asking!

Chocolate and caramel - SO GOOD! Any candy bar that contains both of those ingredients is my favorite!! Milky Wars, 100,000 dollar bars - I could go on and on!! I have even made cookies that have a rolo hidden inside - yum!!!

Leigh Anne. . . .What a joy it is to get your weekly blogs. Thanks for inspiring us in so many ways. I like milk chocolate and have to hide it from myself. Probably my all time favorite is my mom’s mint fudge. . . .what a “taste of home.” I think I only gained about 10 pounds during Christmas eating, eating, and eating some more of the fudge. Mom even tried hiding it, but I’m good at finding. YUM!!!!!

You are a girl after my own heart! Your list of acceptable and unacceptable mix-ins is spot on - except that I like nuts. Hershey bars with almonds are VERY good. I’m surprised I haven’t seen it yet, but my favorite form of chocolate is…. chocolate cake with chocolate fudge frosting with chocolate ice cream on top!!!! YUM!

The darker the better and add a little carmel to it and I’m a happy girl.. I do like white chocolate on occassion, but really not a fan of milk chocolate… I was so excited when snickers came out with the dark chocolate variety and Ghiradeli does a dark square with carmel filling (to die for!!!)

Thanks Leigh Anne for your wonderful blog.
As for me–I have never found a chocolate I didn’t love! Favorite candy bar–Snickers. Growing up my mom always had icecream in the freezer–but only some form of chocolate–forget vanilla! We also enjoyed adding some chocolate syrup on top. Favorite memory was going to Grandma’s house and being able to have some Hershey bar with nuts that she always had in the same spot in her cupboard waiting for us.

Sandy,

Now that you’ve brought up ice cream - I have to fess up - my latest addiction is Haagen Dazs vanilla ice cream with crushed up Whoppers on top!!

I LOVE chocolate! But, I will have to admit, I love chocolate with nuts. Snickers, Hershey’s with Almonds, Almond Joy and M & M’s are my favorite!!!

I am surprised no one has mentioned the incredible health benefits of chocolate. Maybe my mind is focused in that direction because it often is. After having worked in the OR for several years, I tend to read many articles related to health, rather than current events, etc..

Did you know that chocolate is known to increase blood flow, and therefore lower blood pressure? Did you know that chocolate promotes a healthy heart and well-being? Did you know that chocolate lessens pain by producing endorphins? And did you know that chocolate gives you more energy? Now who doesn’t want any of the above!

I love chocolate, but I prefer it plain or with nuts. I can pass on all fruit, no matter what it is, if it has chocolate on it. I often find myself eating a piece of chocolate and then sticking a nut or two (preferably almonds) in my mouth with it. With a husband that loves chocolate and nuts, there is never a shortage of either around here.

I’m sorry but i don’t like chocolate but my husband does. I do like candy or anything that doesn’t have chocolate in it. Thanks but no thank you to chocolate. But I do love white chocolate.

How do I NOT like chocolate should really be the question for me :) While sitting here eating Snyder’s Butter Snaps pretzels with Hershey kisses melted with an M&M in the center that the girls & I made after school today…I tried to think if there is any way I don’t like chocolate.

Hmm, I’m with you on the milk chocolate and the white. Mint Oreo Blizzard, Kit Kat Blizzard, Lindt Lindor Truffles, White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake, Heath Bars — just randomly naming some favorites.

Anyone remember Ice Cubes chocolate squares? They just melt in your mouth and are my all-time favorites! Hard to find and I have actually ordered them from this website! http://www.oldtimecandy.com/ice-cubes.htm

But I did think of the the one way I cannot eat chocolate–when it covers raisins. ICK! Those Raisinets have always given me the willies. No offense to the Raisinet lovers out there but I’ll take the Goobers instead, thank you very much.

Well I like my chocolate kinda like you do sparingly and with not so intense a flavor. My favorite right now is QFC’s chocolate covered kettle corn. Luckily it only comes in small bags and surprisingly there aren’t that many calories considering it is chocolate. Another favorite which i see Sherry mention above is those small square butter pretzels with a hershey’s hug (kiss with white chocolate swirl) melted on top and then an M&M pressed into the hug. I’m gonna go buy some of those green v-day M&M’s and make some tomorrow. Hungry anyone?

I am a dark chocolate fan, specifically DOVE dark chocolate- those little individually wrapped squares? Mmmmm…. I always keep a bag in one of my cupboards and inevitably I eat 2-3 each day.

Another favorite is the Hershey Candy Cane Kisses- white chocolate kisses with peppermint crunchy swirl- they are so delicious. I only have two of these tasty morsels left before my bag is empty- too bad they are only available at Christmas!

My favorite chocolates are from Oh! Chocolate up in Seattle. I had the pleasure of receiving a 4-pack sample for Christmas a couple years ago and now anytime someone heads up there I have them pick up a couple boxes- I personally find their truffles to be smoother and creamier than Sees and just melt in your mouth delicious. Gotta love their name, too!

Oh! Chocolate

After this message, I only have one peppermint kiss left….ugh!

Oh, I am a complete chocoholic! I can’t remember the last time I went an entire day without chocolate.

I absolutely love chocolate and mint together. Unfortunately for our budget, I’m pretty hooked on the high quality chocolates, stuff you can’t get in the drug stores. Love the Endangered Species and Green & Black’s bars, both organic. And the Organic Mint Chocolate bar from Equal Exchange is the best of all worlds - fair trade, shade grown, organic and wonderfully satisfying for the palate as well!

I also LOVE our local chocolate shop, Bursts Candies here in Corvallis - everything is made right in the basement of this cute, downtown shop.

MY FAVORITE RIGHT NOW IS HOME MADE CHOCOLATE FUDGE SAUCE. I LOVE IT OVER VANILLA ICE CREAM, BUT OF COURSE YOU HAVE TO MELT THE HOT FUDGE, BECAUSE IT GETS SO THICK IN THE REFRIGERATOR, IT WON’T MOVE UNTIL IT’S MELTED. MY GRANDKIDS TOLD ME THAT IT WAS THE BEST EVER. WHAT WOULD WE DO WITHOUT OUR GRANDKIDS APPROVAL?

My top five favorite Chocolate treats are
Chocolate Truffles (Ohh la la),
Chocolate Covered Pretzels with mini M&M,
Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups,
Brownies and Chocolate pudding.

I’m not particular, I like all kinds of chocolate! However, I especially like dark Belgium chocolates with caramel filling. While, not dark chocolate, Snickers is my favorite candy bar. Another favorite chocolate with the caramel filling are “Turtles” candies. I also enjoy chocolate covered cherries. I love white chocolate mochas as well. My favorite cake with chocolate is chocolate kahlua. It’s so rich and just melts in your mouth.
Kathryn

OK - my all time favorite chocolate treats…a Snickers bar or chocolate peanut butter ice cream from Baskin Robbins. Although, I do love any good chocolate dessert - especially any recipe from Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa. :) I totally agree with Sherra about raisins and chocolate - the only worse combo for me is chocolate covered cherries!!!

Oh yes, and my favorite white chocolate and raspberry tart - thanks girl! Love ya. :)

Ewwww–thanks Deb for reminding me about chocolate covered cherries–I’m nauseous just typing about them. It’s a two-way tie with the raisinets!! ICK

Fannie May and Frango chocolates were both big favs when I was growing up in the Midwest. YUM!
