We are enjoying an incredibly beautiful weekend in Portland
Blue skies, no rain and nice warm temperatures. Perfect! Days like today are the reason we endure all the rain and dreary days – for perfect days like today!
Since the kids had no school Friday and Monday is a holiday we are enjoying a nice long weekend and we are trying to pack as much fun and good food into it as we can.
One of my favorite things to do in the summer is to spend Saturday mornings at our local Beaverton Farmer’s Market buying fresh produce, flowers and plants.
Cali, Jim and I started our first visit this season to the market with this – an incredibly, HUGE omelet made by the Canby Asparagus Farm – yum!!! It is so big it fed all three of us!
Then we picked up some of these yummy, first of the season, strawberries which we enjoyed Sunday morning on top of our Puff Up Pancake.
And then we found this beautiful, slender asparagus which we grilled last night with olive oil and salt and then squeeze lemon juice and garlic over the top when done.
Jim picked up some beautiful onions to use in fajitas for dinner tomorrow.
And then we drooled over this red, ripe tomatoes….
and check out these carrots.
I showed a little restraint and didn’t buy any of these “ready to pop” peonies but I sure was tempted. Since I have a bunch ready to pop in my garden I decided I should just control myself!
Watch for some great upcoming recipes using “fresh from the farm” ingredients. I’m even going to introduce you to my good friend and amazing cook Deb who loves visiting the Farmer’s Market and cooking with farm fresh ingredients too!

I drooled over everything…We have a great Farmers’ Market here in Davis, but alas! I’m no longer able to go. I’m thinking of joining one of the Co-Ops that deliver a box of produce once a week. We did drive down to the strawberry patch the other day though…and got their last four heaping boxes of freshly picked berries for $7.00! (The reason they were so heaping is that the owner of the stand poured a fifth box over the four boxes.) I knew we had a bargain, but hadn’t realized just how much of a bargain until I saw the $3.50 a pint sign on your photo.
Love your pictures of the produce! So Springy and fresh!
I am so glad winter is over! You’ve started me salivating and it is 10:45pm!
What fabulous inspiration for the holiday. We are off to choose garden plants and vegetables as well. Lovely pictures!

Thanks for the inspiration to find “fresh produce.” Yes, I am excited that Moses Lake has a Farmer’s Market. Want to be better about more fruits and veggies in the diet. . . . . .Your pictures are amazing!Only 18 more days til I get to see you!

I use a Nikon D40X and love it – hope to be able to upgrade some day soon!
Ah..I miss that farmer’s market. Gorgeous pics!
I live near Canby and love to go to all the farmer markets. It has inspired me to grow my own produce! Thanks for sharing all your thoughts and recipes. I have tried so many of them and my husband is loving it!

My Mom just went to that Farmers Market. She loved it! We don’t get that great produce here in TX. My kids won’t eat strawberries from here because we always pick our own when we visit OR. It is hard not to be spoiled after that!
PS I tried the puff pancake and it was fabulous!
