Our family plays Rook. I usually read a book while they play because it can get intense! That's not my thing!

I love card games!

Growing up my family played a version of what Joan calls Chicago Rummy...we called it Books and Runs. You are trying to collect the same things that Joan stated but the first round is dealt with only 6 cards, second round 7 cards, third round 8 cards, and so on. We play a sixth and seventh round with 11 cards (2 runs & 1 set/book) and an eighth round with 12 cards (3 runs). This round is played "down and out" meaning you have to lay down and go out on the same move without playing cards on others as you could in earlier rounds. We also allow "wants". This means that at any time during the game a player can "want" a card out of turn. The want option is awarded to the player who's turn is next in line. If you take a "want" (top card from discard pile) you must also take a penalty card from the top of the draw pile. There is no limit to the number of wants during the game except in the last round with 12 cards dealt...each player can only want twice...so choose wisely!

We also love to play hand and foot. There are so many versions of that!

Recently we learned a new game. Matter of fact I was just searching the internet for the rules. It is called Pekwa, Fan Tan, Card Dominos, Sevens...or something like that!

I know, I know, everyone says right now they are so easy compared to teenagers, but I believe it has alot to do with your attitude going into it! I can't wait to have teenagers! I want to be a fun mom that my kids like to hang out with! Our children right now are 11, 9, 6 1/2 and 4 this month! Oldest 2 are girls, youngest 2 are boys. Thanks for sharing!

growing up our favorite game was dirty canasta (what Snow White calls hand and foot)...what a blast!

Currently my family loves to play "Spaced Out" which you can't buy anymore. It's kind of a variation of U-NO. Warnings are always given out each time we take the game out to treat it with respect so that it doesn't get ruined! LOL

Our family likes Chicago Rummy! If four people, we use two decks of cards, including jokers, and each person is dealt ten cards.
Chicago Rummy Rules:

Play with two decks of playing cards, including jokers.

First Hand: To lay down player must have two sets of 3 or more in a set – at one time. You may play cards on your own sets or on those of other players. (You must discard to go out.)

Second Hand: 1 run of 4 of the same suit (or more) and 1 set (one of each) – at one time. You may play cards on your own or on those of other players.

Third Hand: 2 runs

Fourth Hand: 3 sets

Fifth Hand: 2 sets, 1 run and go out (no discard) – the game ends at that point.

You count the points left in players’ hands at end of each round against them…as follows:

 Joker: 20 points
Ace: 15 points
K-Q-J-10 – 10 points
9-2 : 5 points each

As you can see, it is that 5th round that is the killer 'cause there are no opportunities to lay down any of you cards prior to end of round.
