Cupcake Tutorial

My friends Kris and Kim of You Can Make This have started a fun new project.  The DIY Dish is an amazing new video blog where Kris and Kim share lots of fun and creative projects.

I was so excited when they contacted me last week and invited me to participate in a project with them.

Today you are going to get to view my very first video blog post!!  Kris and Kim asked me to put a video together to share with you and their readers some of my cupcake decorating tips and ideas!  This was a bit of a stretch for me but so fun!  Just remember it’s my very first video so there is definitely room for improvement! Be kind!  Thanks to my daughter Tessa who was my camera girl!

Don’ miss my favorite Buttercream Frosting Recipe.  For some wonderful cupcake recipes just type cupcakes into the search box on the right hand side for a great selection – the Perfect Lemon Cupcake is one of my favorites!

I’ve already got some ideas for some future videos!  So I hope you enjoy it.  After you watch it be sure and head on over to The DIY Dish to enter their great giveaway.  See below for info on what to do!

The best place in Portland for cake decorating supplies is The Decorette Shop off 99W in Tigard – it is tucked behind a strip mall but the selection is great!!!

After all the decades I’ve spent cake decorating, I never thought to add bits of fruit to my cupcakes! Thanks for the great tip.

By the way, your recipes are awesome. Now when I travel to visit family, I don’t have to remember to bring my recipes… I simply log onto your site and pick one of yours. We’ve enjoyed every one I’ve tried!

Thanks for sharing LA. I love how you make it all so simple. And it can really be that simple. I tend to over think everything. Reading your sites help me see that I don’t need to do that. Also like the idea of looking for the cake platters at the discount stores. My dream home – will have a fabulous kitchen where I can keep more tools and serving platters and keep them more accessible!

Great video! Love the way your sealed off your piping bags so the icing doesn’t get all over you, I will remember that next time I frost some cupcakes!

What a perfect video!! Your first??!! You and your daughter make a great team. I do have a question…when you subsitute buttermilk for the water …is it the same amount? About how much vanilla is used? And do you do this with every flavor of cake mix? I am a regular followere of your blog and really enjoy everything….especially the recipes! Great tips for frosting the cupcakes.

    Thanks!!!

    Judy

    Leigh Anne says:

    Judy,

Yes I use equal amounts buttermilk for the water. I usually use 1-2 tsp of vanilla – I like vanilla!! It works with every flavor of cake mix! Thanks!! Glad you enjoyed the video!

Hi Leigh Anne – Great video. I love your blog and visit frequently to get great dinner ideas. My favorite is your lemon chicken! I’ve made it several times for my family and others. Now living near Sacramento and staying in touch. :) Good luck to you.
