Cul de Sac Girls

Note:  We are off to Utah this weekend to take Cali back to school.  I am a sad mama.  I am going to miss that girl.  I see another pint of Haagen Dazs ice cream in my near future – maybe two!

Last week, a few nights before we left for Utah, Cali had a cul de sac girl reunion.  Growing up there were five girls Cali’s age within a 3 house radius.  They went through elementary, middle school and high school together.  Two of the girls families have now moved away from the cul de sac, there have been divorces, deaths, all kinds of “life happens” kind of stuff.  The girls have gone off to college, studied in foreign countries, gotten jobs and one of them will even graduate this year.  But the amazing thing is, no matter how much time has gone by since they have seen each other last, those bonds and relationships are still there when they get together.  And they even cook their own dinner now when they get together!

I miss these cute little faces…

and watching them grow up and mature….and yes, all those soccer games and braces!

But now I get to see the amazing, beautiful women they have become!!

But some things never change…..

At their dinner last week, Leena brought along a poem she had found as she was going through things in her room.  The poem was written by her grandfather (Baba)  seven years ago when the cul de sac girls were in middle school.

How sweet and precious is this…

Hannah and Leena

Cali & Claire

& Gail also there

A group of five

Neighborhood girls

From early childhood

And also as preteens

Starting from preschool

And then to mid-school.

They studied together

and played many games

with fun & frolic

& now as teens

About – thirteen

On high school threshold

Beautiful & bold

Being in the neighborhood

In all likelihood

Together they will complete

Their years in high school

& gently there after

The adolescence will Bloom

Into worthy womanhood

Then will come

The parting days

& though there will be

Different ways

Their hearts will remain

Always together

A grandpa wishes them

A career of Choice

& also a life partner

Always nice

I think he was right – their “hearts will remain, always together”

Childhood girlfriends – the best kind!

Oh man, do I know what you’re going through. This last week, I took my Callie off to school for the first time. She’s my baby. I have cried off and on for two days.
I love the photos and the idea of the get together. It’s wonderful to see your children do well, even when that means they leave us for bigger and better things.
Be proud, momma, you raised her well :)

What a beautiful tribute to those beautiful girls Leigh Anne!! The pictures are a treasure. Amazing that a “threesome” has stuck together!

It was such fun to look at the photo blog, Leigh Anne…to see how those little girls have grown up. I have one daughter who still gets together with her close friends from junior high on. They are 50+ now and still getting together and acting like kids at least once a year – there are usually 8-10…and much fun catching up.

I loved this. I am still very close with my childhood friend from the 2nd grade. Several years ago we went on a “celebrating 30 years of friendship” cruise, just the two of us. We also lived right down the road from each other, it was wonderful.

How blessed we are to have friends and friendships that continue through the years. GOOD LUCK Cali as you start another year at BYU. Have fun in Denver for the football game and hug my kids for me. Hugs from WA!
