Given a choice of a variety of desserts, if there is ice cream on the list that is usually my choice.
I come from a family of ice cream lovers. In fact, growing up, we had a freezer in the garage just for ice cream.
I live by the philosophy that there is always room for ice cream. It melts and fills in the cracks. Summer is coming and I’ve been getting ready by warming up my ice cream maker. I love my table top 2 qt. Cuisinart ice cream maker.
I get on flavor kicks. A few weeks ago it was Malted Milk Ice Cream. And during the holidays it was Peppermint Ice Cream. I use my basic vanilla ice cream recipe and just change up the flavors by what I add in. For Malted Milk it was malt powder and some crushed malted milk balls. For Peppermint Ice Cream it was some peppermint syrup and crushed up candy canes.
My newest favorite flavor is cinnamon. Cinnamon ice cream – yum!
Cinnamon ice cream just by it self is wonderful but I decided to take it up a notch or two on the flavor ladder and I added in some homemade oatmeal cookies! And you have Cinnamon and Oatmeal Cookie Ice Cream!!!
Not only does it add some delicious flavor, I love the texture that the cookies add to the ice cream.
I add the cinnamon in with the ice cream base but the cookies are added in at the end so that they stay crunchy in the ice cream. When the ice cream is done churning I turn off the machine and then stir in about 8 crushed up oatmeal cookies. I used homemade oatmeal cookies using this recipe but you could also use store bought.
I like my ice cream nice and hard so I put it into a airtight container and then let it harden up in the freezer for several hours or overnight. I sprinkled a couple of crushed cookie on the top too!
I loved this flavor combination – the cinnamon with the crunchy oatmeal cookie. So good!
I am totally ready for summer and lots more homemade ice cream. Do you have any flavor suggestions for me?
