Thanks for all the great comments!  I have another fun giveaway planned in a couple of weeks!  Another fun “memory” piece I am giving to my girls for Christmas.  You’ll want one too!

I was blessed to have a grandmother that knit.  She was an amazing knitter!  Whenever I picture my British Grandma Best she is either holding a pair of knitting needles or a cup of tea.

She knit or crocheted everything!  We have bedspreads, tablecloths, sweaters, mittens, hats, barbie clothes, blankets, Christmas stockings, and  stuffed toys all knit by my grandmother.

One of my most prized possessions is the blanket she knit for me when I was born.  This beautiful ecru colored blanket was used on the day I was Blessed (similar to a Christening, Dedication)

Here is a photo of my parents on my Blessing Day holding me wrapped in the beautiful hand knit blanket my grandmother made for that special occasion.

My mother even took me in for a “formal portrait” with the blanket

Aren’t I cute!

My mother lovingly cared for the blanket over the years and when my first baby was born she gave the blanket to me so that my children could be wrapped in that special blanket of memories on their Blessing Day.

Here is Logan…

Even though my Grandmother was not present at the Blessing she was there in spirit as we wrapped each baby in that beautiful blanket.

Today I am so excited to offer each of you the opportunity to have your own blanket of memories.

Melissa of  Fairy Child Heirlooms is graciously sponsoring this giveaway.  She has donated one of her beautiful, handmade heirloom blankets.  The blanket is Imperial batiste fabric with lace sewn around the edge, measuring a 43″ square (nice and big)

Please pay a visit to her site to see all the other beautiful things she makes!

This blanket is perfect for any new baby in your life - give the gift of a blanket of memories to some special baby!

To enter the giveaway leave a comment below and share why you would like to win.  Deadline to enter is 12:00 midnight PST, Thursday, October 16th.  A random drawing will be held and the winner will be announced in my Friday post.

  • Anyone in the U.S. with an email and a name is eligible.
  • One entry per person, please.
  • Emails are never published nor is your identity revealed if you choose to use a code name.

Melissa is a native of AZ.  She is a wife to a wonderful, hard working man that has two full-time jobs so she can stay home and raise their four daughters.  She enjoys doing all kinds of sewing and crafting.

Her sister taught her how to smock 12 years ago and she’s  loved heirloom sewing ever since.  After a few years of sewing for her own girls, she decided to make things for friends that were having babies.  Before she knew it, she was making blessing outfits for friends that were willing to pay for them! That’s when she decided that she wanted to make a business from her passion. She especially loves sewing one-of-a-kind heirloom clothes and accessories for babies and children.

What a beautiful blanket. I looked at Melissa’s blog and she has amazing talent. Her little doll quilts are precious.
I’d love to win this baby blanket because I’ve got a white blanket for blessing day for each of my children EXCEPT my youngest. He borrowed his big brother’s. I’d love for him to have one of his own….and this blanket is gorgeous!

My grandma knitted each of my three sisters and myself a blanket. In my case we each got a different color and for years we used our blankets for nap time, tv time, and any other time we wanted to cuddle up. It sometimes feels like knitting is becoming a lost art! I would love this beautiful blanket to help carry on the tradition a bit!

I love this blanket. It is so pretty, and of course white just can’t be beat. I would love to have this blanket for our next child to call his/her own.

I love the idea of having a blanket that each of my grandchildren would use at their blessing. This is beautiful!

It’s so beautiful! I have a special little niece that was just born this morning that I would love to give a very special gift to. This would be perfect!

My little guy has not been baptized in our church yet but he will soon. I would love to have him wrapped in this when he gets baptized.

Blankets are wonderful! I have one from when I was a baby. I loved it all my life but finally packed it away for good when I turned 30! I told my husband and kids to get it out for me again if I ever become a bedridden old lady! :)

I have a blanket that my mom used to bring me home from the hospital and used on the day of my christening. I used it for both my children in the same ways. My grandmother knit and crocheted too and I have a sweater/booty/hat set that my kids got to wear. I would love to give this blanket to a good friend of mine who is expecting even though the doctors said she couldn’t get pregnant! God had other plans. But if I don’t win than I am definitely going to purchase one from Melissa for her.

This blanket is beautiful. What a wonderful talent Melissa has. I made a woven blanket for my son when he was born, to use on his blessing day. What a wonderful tradition. I would love to have this blanket so I could give to my sister who is expecting her first baby this spring and pass the tradition on though our family.

Such a beautiful heirloom blanket! I’d love a chance to win! Thanks for hosting! Suzie

I amm just learning to knitt so I can make beautiful blankets for my grandchildren. I would love to learn how to make something as beautiful as your blanket. Right now I’m just learning how to make boothies and hats. Thanks for the chance to win this.

Sincerely

I have a friend who just had a baby and this would be a great gift for her.

We are expecting our second daughter in February. My own grandmothers had passed away before we even knew that we were expecting our first child. I had been given a little bit of money after my paternal grandmother passed and I used it to buy a blessing dress for our first daughter.

I want the dress to be exclusively hers. I have been looking for something that would be special for little Emily. I think that this blanket would be perfect. :D

What a lovely blanket - I am expecting a daughter, and already have a Christening gown, slip and bonnet. A blanket would be perfect to go with the ensemble I already have.

Thank you for the giveaway!

What a neat memory to have all your little ones’ picture taken with the same blanket.

I would love to win this giveaway for the selfish reason that I’ve never had a baby blanket as special as the one you are giving away!

I am always looking for baby gift ideas. Usually I crochet my own, but blankets aren’t my specialty so this would be a great addition. Currently, I have 2 cousins expecting so this would be great

I viewed the blanket on Missy’s heirloom site. So beautiful. If I win it will go to my very first grandbaby due in January!

What a beautiful blanket! I would love to win this blanket because I will soon be an aunt and have a little niece to spoil. My brother and his wife are expecting their very first baby girl, and it would be awesome to give them such an heirloom. They had trouble conceiving, as there was less than a 3% chance they would conceive, yet, they have been blessed with a healthy little girl on the way. It would be special for her to be blessed in such a blanket.

Not having a large family, and not ever knowing any of my grandparents and most of my aunts and uncles (most of them had either passed away or lived far away from us)I don’t have items that were passed on from generation to generation, or from special relatives. I would love to receive the blanket and begin the tradition by giving it to our upcoming grandson. Thank you for announcing another one of your favorite blogs. I have just added it to my list of “favorites”.

of course Clark is asleep!

I would love to win this beautiful blanket for my little sister who is pregnant with her first baby. She is so terrified! I know she would absolutely love this.

Beyond beautiful pics!! I would love to have this item b/c you have just inspired me to keep it as something I can pass down through the generations. Right now I have a 2 year old and not much longer I plan on having another little one, so this could be soooo perfect for me! I would be so excited to win! Thank you,
Crystal

Logan was easily the ugliest baby out of the four.

Step-grandaughter expecting. I’m no longer to take on such large projects, so would love winning this to give to her.

Melissa’s blanket is gorgeous! Please “put my name in the hat.” Thank you for sharing your Grandma’s blanket stories & pictures. Handcrafted heirlooms are treasures indeed! - Amy Bauer

This is truly a beautiful blanket. Melissa is a very talented woman. I would love to have this special blanket for my family that we could have and save for just the right occasion. It would definitely become an heirloom for my children and their families. Thanks, Leigh Anne. I love your site.

Wouldn’t it be nice to win? Those blankets are so wonderful - I love all things handmade, knit especially. Melissa’s blanket would make a beautiful addition to our home to be cherished and used. Thanks for offering the giveaway. :)

I would love to win one of Melissa’s gorgeous blankets for my baby girl who is going to be Baptized next month. It would make a lovely keepsake for her to pass along to her future family.

Thank you for the opportunity!
Denise

Beautiful blanket! I would love to make something like this if I could only find the time! I’d love to win! :)

What a gorgeous blanket! I enjoyed visiting Melissa’s sight ~ she has beautiful things!

I have a dress that my Grandmother got for me, and a photo of me in it as a toddler. My daughter wore the same dress, and we had a photo taken–we look so much the same! Heirlooms are a wonderful part of family history!

Missy’s creations are unique and heavenly! Her web site is full of treasures that would delight any mother or child! I’m always trying to figure out ways to pass down family traditions. This would be a wonderful way to start the tradition of the blanket. . . . .Thanks Leigh Anne and Missy!

Aww..look how cute you were. Your daughters look a lot like you. Since I am done (I guess we never really know…???) having babies, I would save this for my first grandchild. It’s too beautiful to give away to anyone else.

PS That’s so sweet that your boys read your blog. :-)

Love the blanket and the pictures of you and your kids with it! Love your boy’s comments too - does sibling rivalry ever stop?!? Maybe they want to win the giveaway and save it for your first grandbaby!

Gorgeous blanket! My step daughter is making my husband a grandpa for the first time and I would love to be able to give the blanket to her! Love the posts by your sons!

I am lucky enough to have one of these beautiful blankets! It has been my all time favorite summer blanket and we are using it now even as it get cooler. Thanks for the chance to win another so I can share with someone else!!!

If they win (which they won’t!!) that blanket has a long wait!! I’m just trying to get them to go out on a date!!

Leigh Anne, it doesn’t get any sweeter than that. I love heirlooms and have a few that are so dear to me and my children. That blanket you are giving away is beautiful. I will have to buy one for the next baby born in our family.

oh this is so beautiful. What a great idea to have an heirloom blanket. Thanks for having such a generous giveaway! I sincerely hope I’m the lucky winner.

Missy stopped by my blog and told me about this WONDERFUL giveaway. My daughter is getting ready to have a baby girl (Noel Grace) in December so please do sign me up!
Thank you so much,
Robin~♥

I love items that can be passed down through generations. My mother crocheted me a baby blanket when my son was born, and I used it for both of my children. Thanks for showing us the lovely pics of your blessing blanket and how meaningful it is to your family. I would love to win one of Melissa’s blankets, and be honored to carry on the tradition!

What a beautiful blanket. I love family treasures and we have quite a few. I have blankets that knit and crocheted by both of my Grandmothers as well as a special knit blanket that was given to Drew by my brother who is his Godparent.

such a lovely story. i think it is so special that you have your blanket and have been able to share it with your children on their special day.
my niece just had her second child four days ago, and it would be a lovely gift for her baby for his christening. thanks for hosting this. missy is an online friend of mine, and she makes beautiful things.

I am expecting my first baby in January. I would love to start a tradition of using a beautiful blanket with his blessing. It is the kind of thing that makes a Mom sentimental just thinking about it. Thanks for the giveaway! -Kami

I love this blanket. We are expecting our third grandchild in Dec. It is my oldest daughters first. I would love to give this to her because she appreciates beautiful things and would be so excited to wrap her little one in this spectacular work of art.

I checked out Missy’s site. WOW! What a great site. Beautiful gifts AND great advice.

If I won the blanket, I would give it to my 12 year old daughter. She is my only child (out of three) that shares my love of history and heritage. Why wait until she is pregnant? By giving it to her now, I can help her see what a gift she has and encourage her to hold on to it (especially through the teenage years!!)

I’m going to be really selfish and say that I would love this blanket for me. Sort of. I’m due in May with what I think is a girl and my mom has made blankets for my other children but has her plate more than a little full right now with my dad’s cancer treatments and probably will not be making a blessing blanket/afghan for this little one. I’d like to relieve her stress and any feeling of obligations on this point.
Selfish?
Mmmm, maybe, but not entirely, I hope. Besides, the blanket is just gorgeous.

I am not entering the contest but I just wanted to say that as Melissa uses her incredible talent, she puts her love into each stitch of her projects. She has made some beautiful things for my family and the person who wins the blanket will not only receive an heirloom but a piece of Melissa’s heart as well. Good luck everyone!

That blanket is beautiful! I would love to have that for my next child. Seriously Beautiful!!

Everyone needs a beautiful white blanket to use when they bless their children. My sister just blessed her baby boy this past Sunday and borrowed my white blanket for the special occasion…and I would love to pass it on to her so that she had her very own special white blanket. Thanks for a wonderful giveaway!

Are you kidding the blanket is gorgeous! A grandchild (someday) would be thrilled to have it!Love your blog thanks for all your ideas, recipes and thoughts.

The blanket is beautiful and looks so soft and cozy. I would love the blanket to wrap my new baby girl in who will be born the first part of December. This will be my fifth girl and I have never had an heirloom blanket for any of them, just random ones. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity!
P.S You were a darling baby!!

That blanket is beautiful! i am expecting in march and would love to use it as a blessing blanket. thanks for all the fun ideas from your blog, i bought banners from emmiecakes and love them!

That is a stunning piece of art and would be an heirloom to pass on to my first grandchild (when my children get around to marriage & babies, that is :-D )

I just had a beautiful baby girl and I think that she would look gorgeous wrapped up in that heirloom blanket.

That is a beautiful blanket. I am in awe of anyone that knits as I have 2 left hands when it comes to that. I would love to use that blanket with any future grandchildren.

What a beautiful blanket! I would save it for my first grandchild. Thanks for your wonderful site and all the recipes.

I Love Missy’s work! She does such a beautiful job creating family heirlooms. I want to be just like her. I would love to have her quilt to make my second baby girl feel warm and loved on her blessing day.

It’s wonderful that there are people who still carry on these amazing crafts! I would love to have this beautiful blanket for my daughter. Thank you for sharing!

I would love to give this blanket to my foster mom friend. She has been taking care of a darling little girl for 6 months now…Trinity is only 7 months old. This would be a precious gift and keepsake for Trinity.

After years of trying to have a baby I was diagnosed with endometriosis and told I would need surgery. During the CAT scan before the surgery, my doctor found a tumor and discovered ovarian cancer and I had to have a full hysterectomy. All of my dreams of having a baby were gone and I was devastated. I am healthy now and am currently in the process of adopting. I would love to have the opportunity to raise a beautiful little baby - and sharing this blanket through the years, like you have, just warms my heart. With any luck, I will have a little one soon to share my heart and soul with :)

So pretty with that delicate lace, I would love to win this blanket. I do a little sewing and have made a few “fancy” baby gowns, I would love to do something this pretty.

I would love to win this beautiful heirloom for one of the very special foster babies we cared for. She was born with 3 drugs in her system and we were told that this child would suffer the consequences of her mother’s decisions to do drugs while pregnant with her. As far as we can tell the Lord has healed her and she is healthy, happy and thriving, after detoxing her twice. I would love to take this blanket and have her name embroidered on it as a special remembrance (that she is the heir of a King) of what the Lord has done.

You are very good at capturing your memories in pictures. I regret not getting some memories in pictures and hope to be better. The blanket is beautiful.
