BBQ Pork Sandwiches are a quick, easy and delicious meal done in your crock pot. The meat is tender and delicious and a definite crowd pleaser.
If you are looking for an easy, no fuss dinner, today’s recipe is just for you. These bbq pork sandwiches are a great recipe to put on the dinner rotation. The crock pot does all of the work for you, it only involves a few simple ingredients, and everyone loves the flavor or this marinated pork.
Pulled Pork Ingredients
- Pork Roast. I recommend using an inexpensive cut of pork such as a pork roast, pork shoulder or pork carnitas.
- Root Beer. You can also use Coke or Dr. Pepper. I recommend NOT using diet soda.
- Seasoning. Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, Dry Mustard, Salt and Pepper.
How to Make BBQ Pork Sandwiches
- Place pork into the crock pot
- Sprinkle pork with seasoning.
- Pour in 2 1/2 cups of root beer, pouring to the side of the roast so you don’t wash off the seasoning.
- Cook on low for about 5- 6 hours or until it pulls apart easily.
- After it is cooked, drain off the liquid and shred the meat.
- Drizzle your favorite BBQ sauce over the meat and then return to the crockpot and allow to cook for about one more hour.
- Serve BBQ Pork on a bun and top it with a little more BBQ sauce.
If you prefer, you can serve it the meat without the bun and serve it with some Smashed Potatoes, Rice Pilaf or Roasted Potatoes.

Looks terrific! I know this sounds like a silly question but…I don’t like root beer…is the flavor of root beer dominant? You know how sometimes an ingredient is used but you cannot taste it? Would you recommend another soda-Coke or Dr. Pepper or have you tried it that way? Thanks Leigh Anne! Can’t wait to try it!
Leigh Anne says
You don’t taste the root beer at all. I am sure you could probably use Dr. Pepper or Coke. It doesn’t leave any flavor behind though – at least that I could tell.

I always have a pork butt in the freezer for when the urge hits. This sounds unreal.

Pork is so versatile isn’t it! I always pick one up when it is on sale at Winco.

I had shredded pork on the brain already, and this just clinched it – this’ll be on the menu tomorrow. I can’t believe I’ve never thought of toasting and buttering the buns! Genius! We also like our shredded pork sandwiches with cheese, so I usually put the slice of cheese on the bottom to minimize the sog factor.
Leigh Anne says
Love the idea of adding cheese – what kind do you use? I like to toast the buns for hamburgers too. Just adds extra flavor as well as helping to prevent the bun for getting soggy so fast.

Tillamook cheddar :). The all purpose staple in our house. We always have at least a half dozen different cheeses on hand, but that’s my go-to. Putting this in the pot right now for tonight!
