Apple Pudding Cake is the perfect fall dessert that is full of apples and cinnamon covered in caramel sauce and whip cream.
This recipe was the first one I ever shared here on the blog, back in November of 2007. It is still one of my all time favorite desserts.
Favorite Fall Dessert
Do you have a favorite dessert that smells and tastes just fall? I do and it’s this one. I anxiously await the fall each year so I can make Apple Pudding Cake. It is one of those desserts that just needs to be eaten in the fall.
The recipe came from my friend Jane. When she gave me the recipe she told me to double the caramel recipe. She was right, I promise, you will want to double it too. You seriously may want to drink the stuff!
Why Is It Called Pudding Cake?
I am not sure why it is called “pudding cake”. There is no pudding in the cake but it is a nice moist cake.
How to Make Apple Pudding Cake
- Grate apples in the food processor or by hand. I don’t peel the apples.
- Measure the apples but DO NOT pack them into the measuring cup, just lightly scoop them in.
- Mix together eggs, sugar, apples and oil in a bowl.
- Add in dry ingredients and stir until well mixed
- Pour into greased 9 x 13
- Bake at 350 for 40 minutes
While the cake is baking make your caramel sauce.
How to Make Caramel Sauce
- Combine all your ingredients into a saucepan over medium heat.
- Stir until combined and sauce begins to thicken.
Can I make Apple Pudding Cake Ahead of Time?
This cake can be made 1-2 days ahead of serving. Keep refrigerated until ready to serve. You can be served cold, room temperature or warm. The caramel sauce can also be made ahead of time, kept refrigerated and warmed before serving.
How to Serve Apple Pudding Cake
I prefer the cake served warm with lots and lots of warm caramel sauce on top. I also like to top it off with some whipped cream. (There is not enough caramel sauce in the picture above you must have much more!)
Sometimes I think I make this dessert just so I can have the caramel sauce!. So grab a fork and dig in!!
