Empty Nest – Take Two

I should be in bed.  In fact, I was in bed but I couldn’t sleep. Today (or yesterday when you read this), I returned from Utah where I deposited my girls back at college.  Thirty six hours after the Wedding Carnival we hopped in the car and drove 13 hours to Utah. We spent the next two days in a whirlwind getting them moved back into their apartments, unpacked, books purchased and groceries bought. I also left behind my two boys.  One of them now settled in his first apartment [Continue Reading…]

Simple Mango Crumble}Thirty Handmade Days

simple mango crumble

Today is the end of my awesome guest posters who have all been so amazing and helpful during this crazy Wedding Carnival time! The Wedding Carnival was a huge success and everything I hoped it would be. I can’t wait to share it with you but it is going to have to wait a few more days. Thirty six hours after the carnival I jumped in the car and drove 13 hours with my girls to deliver them back to college (so sad.) I arrive back home today and will [Continue Reading…]

Strawberry Avocado Spinach Salad with Spiced Nuts

One of my favorite things about summer is our weekly visits to the local Farmer’s Market and the daily trips to our own backyard garden. I love the fresh produce! This year my husband planted a whole bed of spinach and other fresh greens for the daily green smoothies he makes for us. It doesn’t get much greener and fresher than that! He also put in another bed of strawberries so we have fresh berries to eat and throw into the smoothies too. I love having all this fresh produce [Continue Reading…]

Strawberry Cream Cake

Today is the day!  Wedding Carnival! It’s been four months of lots and lots of work but it has been so fun.  I am so excited to see it all come together and for the bride and groom and all our family and friends to enjoy what I hope will be a magical moment in time.  That has been my goal.  To celebrate the bride and groom while creating a memory that will last a life time.   Isn’t that what moms are suppose to do!? Today’s recipe is truly [Continue Reading…]

Places to Eat in Phoenix

Places to eat in Phoenix

Prior to our trip to Phoenix for the wedding I posted on Facebook asking for some Phoenix restaurant suggestions.  I only wish I would have had time to check them all out. I did get to hit a few of them.  We were able to go out to breakfast twice while we were there and loved both places. Over Easy was a recommendation from the Food Network.  Their Waffle Dogs came highly recommended.  Tessa ordered them and they were yummy.  A breakfast version of a corn dog  – sausage covered [Continue Reading…]

S’mores Ice Cream}Real Mom Kitchen

Today I am excited to welcome Laura from Real Mom Kitchen to the blog.  Laura was one of the very first bloggers I met when I attended my first blogging conference.  She was so nice and welcoming to me and has been a sweet blog friend every since.  Today she is sharing a recipe that includes two of my favorite things about summer – Homemade ice cream and s’mores.  She has combined the two for a real treat.  Please welcome Laura and leave her a comment to say hi!! The Wedding

Clark & Jessica's Wedding Day

Today I am excited to share with you some photos from my son’s wedding in Arizona last weekend.  It was a beautiful and magical weekend and a hot one. I think the temperatures hit 115 degrees and as a result there weren’t many pictures taken outside! Clark and Jessica were married for time and all eternity in this beautiful and sacred building – the LDS Mesa Temple. Here are the bride and groom coming out of the temple! Mr. & Mrs. Wilkes!  Jessica made a gorgeous bride.  As pretty as [Continue Reading…]

Crock pot Cashew Nut Chicken

A week from today we will be celebrating Clark and Jessica’s marriage in our backyard with a Wedding Carnival!  Any extra prayers for good weather would be appreciated. I can not wait to share with you everything I have been working on – let’s just say it’s been a lot! It’s pretty much become a full time job but I am loving every minute of it.  O.K., so almost every minute.  I am so excited to see it all coming together thanks to the help of some really talented and [Continue Reading…]

Wedding Rehearsal Dinner}Literary Love Theme

back of invite

Today I am excited to share with you the Family Dinner that my husband and I hosted in Arizona last weekend for our son’s wedding. Traditionally it is called a Rehearsal Dinner but since Clark and Jessica were getting married in the LDS Mesa Temple there is no rehearsal so it is a family dinner. (If you would like more information on LDS Temples please go here.)  It is an opportunity for the two families to come today and enjoy getting to know each other a bit before the big [Continue Reading…]
