Finding 50

Despite the continuing rain here in Portland I found lots of pretty this week.  All our rain is helping the roses to go crazy in the garden!!  I found pretty in Portland and in Utah this week when I was there for a visit.  I’d love for you to leave me a comment and let me know what pretty you found in your week.  Send me a photo of your pretty and I’ll share it on Facebook!! May 24 – Day 141 I got tired of my ugly, inexpensive Ikea [Continue Reading…]

The Wedding Planner, Part 3

Be sure to check out Part 1 and Part 2 of The Wedding Planner. The flowers are an important part of a wedding but they can also be an expensive part!  One of the best ways to save money on flowers is to do it yourself.  It’s easier than you think! Andrea said they had never done flower arranging before except to help with her sister’s wedding last year, but they decided to give it a try.  She searched the Internet for sites to order flowers from and chose [Continue Reading…]

Ginger Steak Salad

steak salad

I made this recipe several months ago and we loved it. I’m not sure why it’s taken me so long to share it with you. I made this during my short lived low glycemic phase.  I have made lots of salads topped with chicken and even pork but I haven’t used red meat before but I loved it.  Even with red meat this salad was very light yet filling and satisfying.  Even my sweet tooth felt satisfied! I found this recipe while I was doing some looking around over at [Continue Reading…]

Double Chocolate Brownies with Caramel Frosting

Chocolate and Caramel – does it get any better than that?! These double chocolate brownies with caramel frosting are pure heaven. When I first saw this recipe in my mom’s new Southern Living Cookbook I knew I would be making them – soon! They did not disappoint!  The brownie is full of chocolate and topped with a creamy caramel frosting. They are a perfect addition to any upcoming summertime picnic or just because.  They are guaranteed to satisfy any chocolate craving you may have. You need a candy thermometer to [Continue Reading…]

The Wedding Planner, Part 2

Of course one of the first steps in planning a wedding is deciding on a color scheme for the event. Emily chose the colors for the wedding after she went dress shopping which I think was a brilliant idea.  Instead of deciding on a color scheme and then trying to find dresses that matched she first found the dresses she loved and the colors they were available in and then used that to establish her color scheme! She really liked the combination of green & purple (actually LAPIS and CLOVER) [Continue Reading…]

Balsamic Black Bean Salsa

Balsamic Black Bean Salsa

I have lost track of how many times I have made this salsa.  It has been my go to appetizer for the last few months whenever I am asked to bring something to a potluck.  Every time I have made it I’ve been asked for the recipe – that’s a good sign it is definitely a keeper. This recipe comes from my friend Melanie over at My Kitchen Cafe –  my go to food blog for recipes that don’t disappoint! Not only is it delicious but the colors are so [Continue Reading…]

Finding 50}Days 134 -140

sweet peas

Well, I have to admit this last week was tough.  All it has done is rain and I mean RAIN.  I am not talking sprinkle or drizzle I am talking DOWNPOUR.  We have had short bursts of sun here and there but we have had so much rain!  We are talking gutter over flowing rain. Finding the pretty was a little more difficult this week.  I did manage to get my camera out in the garden in between downpours a few times and then I went to the Farmer’s Market [Continue Reading…]

The Wedding Planner, Part 1

Over the next week or so I am excited to share with you some photographs and details from the wedding of a friend’s daughter.  This is Andrea’s second daughter to get married so she’s getting to be a wedding expert! I read a lot of wedding blogs and I am always blown away by the amazingly beautiful things I see.  Most of them are put together by professional wedding planners and designers.  So beautiful but for the majority of us just not in our budget. When I saw the photos [Continue Reading…]
