Today my oldest child turns 26 – yes 26!!!  I know it is hard to believe I could possibly be old enough to have a child that old, but I am! Happy Birthday Logan! One of the most amazing parts of being a parent is watching your children turn into the people they are suppose to be.  Watching Logan turn into the person he is suppose to be has been a pleasure, a blessing and exciting adventure! Welcome to day five of Eat Cake! Several of you have reminded me of a book I read several years ago – Eat Cake by Jeanne Ray. It is a delightful book about a woman who uses cake baking as therapy. One of my favorite things to do is eat out!  Fortunately Portland has an amazing selection of locally owned restaurants.  I think I could eat out every day and never run out of fun new places to eat. Another one of my favorite things to do is to try and recreate at home an amazing dish I have had at a restaurant. I recently enjoyed lunch with a friend at the Hands on Cafe, a fun little student run cafe at the School of Arts & Crafts on the west side [Continue Reading…]

The BEST Chocolate Cake

The BEST Chocolate cake

Yesterday was Hannah’s 20th birthday.  Hannah is my 3rd daughter.  Hannah and Cali have been best friends and have lived next door to each other since they were 3 years old. You may remember the post I did on the girls when they graduated from high school. I told Hannah I would make her a birthday cake to celebrate.  When I asked her what flavor cake she wanted, she didn’t hesitate, the answer was chocolate! So today’s Eat Cake recipe is for what I consider the BEST chocolate cake. We [Continue Reading…]

Eat Cake!

So did Marie Antoinette really say “Let them eat cake?” Looks like she didn’t. Even though Marie is attributed to having said “Let them eat cake” when told the peasants had no bread historians show that there is no record that she ever said these words – but I think she should have! I think we all should Eat Cake! This week here at Your Homebased Mom it’s all about cake!  I am going to share with you some of the yummy cakes I’ve been making lately and I’d love [Continue Reading…]
