Soft Wrap Bread

soft wrap

Here it is, the recipe I promised you on Monday.  I promise it was worth waiting for. It is another winning recipe from Melanie over at My Kitchen Cafe. Not only is this bread the perfect thing for the Chicken Gyro meat but it delicious plain – all by itself, nice and warm.  Or maybe with a little honey butter or homemade jam? Melanie used leftover bread to make mini pizzas – great idea! I think it would also be great used for soft tacos. One of my favorite ways to eat [Continue Reading...]

Visits to Santa

santa

Yesterday we continued a 25 year old family tradition- having our family picture taken with Santa.  We alway visit the real Santa too, the Santa at Macy’s in downtown Portland. I must admit my 23 and 25 year old boys did give me a bit of a hard time this year as they stood in line with dozens of children ten and under!  But they love their mother and they went along to make me happy. We made it for 25 years  – we’ll see if they’ll give me 26….. [Continue Reading...]

Pancake Syrup

syrup

The main reason I eat pancakes is so that I can have syrup.  Is there any other reason? We always serve pancakes at our annual Breakfast with Santa.  Usually we have the choice of homemade jam, maple syrup or homemade cinnamon syrup.  This year I added a few more choices to the syrup menu. In addition to the hot chocolate bar we also had a syrup bar with four choices of syrup!  Of course there was the traditional maple syrup. Cinnamon syrup, our family favorite is always popular. Print Pancake [Continue Reading...]

Hot Chocolate Bar

hot chocolate bar

This weekend was our annual Breakfast with Santa.  A fun event we host for some of our neighbors. You can read more about how this tradition started over at Your Homebased Parties. Our menu for the party is the same every year – pancakes, little sausages, fruit, juice and hot chocolate. Each year everyone raves about my hot chocolate.  It’s an old family recipe!  Not really, in fact it isn’t even a recipe it’s only a secret ingredient. Believe it or not I use good old Nestle’s Hot Chocolate mix.  [Continue Reading...]

Rocky Road Fudge

Does your family have a favorite holiday treat?  Something that is a must have each holiday season?  The thing that everyone looks forward to and dreams about?! Christmas is not Christmas at our house until there is Rocky Road Fudge. For the last forty years my mother has made Rocky Road Fudge – it’s her holiday speciality. I don’t think I have ever made Rocky Road Fudge, that is my mom’s job!  She does it so well!  I asked her to make a batch this week so I could share [Continue Reading...]

Sugared Bacon}Holiday Breakfast

bacon

I think today’s recipe is probably the most popular item I serve at my annual Holiday Breakfast.  It is the thing people will ask if I am serving when they call to RSVP!  I think some of them would not come if I weren’t!! I actually shared this recipe here on the blog two years ago but it was hidden in the middle of a post and had no photo.  This recipe is so good it deserves it’s own post and a photograph! I think the original recipe actually had cinnamon in [Continue Reading...]

Honey Fruit Salad}Holiday Breakfast

fruit salad

Today’s recipe is for the fruit dish I served at my Holiday Breakfast. Last year I served Strawberries and Brown Sugar Cream. This year I decided I would just go to Costco and see what fresh fruit they had and that would decide what I made. Lucky for me they had fresh strawberries, raspberries and blueberries – and they were yummy!  I picked up a bunch of bananas too. I then got on allrecipes and looked around.  Lucky for me I found a recipe that used all the fruit I [Continue Reading...]
